Can the NBA legally take away ownership from Sterling for these remarks? Does anyone know? I'm pretty sure they can fine/suspend him but I'm not sure about the legalities of the situation. Maybe if the NBA can prove that Sterling is preventing minorities from attending games or something like that. Any lawyers here?

MLB was able to force former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott to sell her club for making a series of offensive remarks. I think it's likely that the NBA can and will do the same to Sterling.

I mean, the guy is owner of an NBA team. Since 1981. Surely he knew back then the demographics of the sport of professional basketball in the US.

I mean, if he was so racist, why did he buy the Clippers? Why didn't he buy the LA Kings or something?

If it is true, it is just one of the wackiest things I'll have ever heard of.

After listening to it, it seems even worse. There are 2 or 3 points where he seems to realize how what he is saying sounds and if he had just stopped talking, it wouldn't have been nearly is bad. But he just couldn't stop himself and dug himself a bigger hole every time he opened his mouth again.

I understand this is the motions of the moment right now. Yes the players are furious, but when these guy's dreamed of competing for a championship, they certainly didn't dream of winning it for Donald Sterling. Doc Rivers will have a team meeting, because they still have an important game tomorrow, it's about the team not Sterling.

I doubt the NBA forces him to sell. They haven't acted against him in the past when he's made racist remarks. Most likely, they will suspend him, perhaps pending him taking some sensitivity training.


When MLB forced Marge Schott out, it was after several other steps to correct her behavior had failed.
