Talk about Mr. Clutch.

Who would have thought that about Samuelsson?

Ever since he told the Swedish Olympic team to fuck off, he's been on fire...

yeah, we do owe a big thank you to:
1) the Bengt crew Olympic selection committee
2) Jiri Hudler for string the Wings along, cap wise

He was a frustrating player when wearing the Winged Wheel. Very inconsistent, prone to floatation, good at either missing the net or putting it right on the goalie's logo. Granted, he was misused by Babcock, IMO (playing the point? Yuck!), but I think the change of scenery did wonders for him. Also I tend to get frustrated with players that big, that yappy, and that dirty (he's not FILTHY dirty, but he does engage in some stickwork and after-whistle activity) who don't really seem to want to use their size to muscle guys out of the way or throw big hits.

I think if he would have stayed on the Wings, I would still be frustrated with him, not singing his praises as a clutch goal scorer like we are this postseason.

This seems to be one of those moves/signings that worked out best for all three parties.

/I still would gladly trade Bert or Williams for him though, even if it meant getting the "old Samuelsson" back...

No thanks. I've seen quite enough of the "old bertuzzi" throughout his career.
he would be the best player in the world if he would just get traded to a new team every 10-15 games. :)

the good thing about Samuelsson is that he never once complained when he got pulled off of the Sedin line, or his powerplay minutes were cut back. he has been the consummate professional here.

and yeah, i was a bit surprised at the edge that he plays with. never noticed that on the Wings.

Samuelsson was always very professional in Detroit, but never really found his offensive groove. And he did seem to amp up the physical play in the playoffs, I remember one time he drilled Iginla into the boards so hard he needed stitches. I think there are a lot of players on the Wings people don't notice as "physical" or "gritty" just because of the Euro-pussy reputation that Detroit has.
