That's some sound thinking

Sound thinking is Wilson is a knucklehead but this particular hit was borderline as he stopped and turned into him. That's how I saw it if he got suspended for it so be it

That wasn't what you were commenting on...it was my statement that it's stupid logic that Pens fans can't criticize and call out head hunting asshat plays because the Pens had asshats that played for them...stay with it

Asshats on both sides is what I was alluding too. Get over it If Wilson was a penguin you wouldn't see it the same way imo

Also, worth noting that I think all (or at least most) of us Caps' fans would like to see Wilson reign in the recklessness. He's grown a lot as a hockey player this year and he's definitely hitting less overall (similar numbers of hits to years past but playing 4-6 more minutes a night than those previous seasons), but he still needs to improve his discipline. Too reckless at times, dumb penalties at times. We don't want the dangerous hits either, but we do all love a nice big, clean hit. Which 95% of his are. He just needs to reign in it a little and get rid of the 5%. Not unlike Ovechkin earlier in his career.

The league made a ruling mostly consistent with other similar situations. It is what it is.

What is the statute of limitations on cheap shots and head hunting? 5 years? 10 years? Longer? The thing is these guys that play close to the edge and at times over the edge keep finding work, so it's clear that NHL GM's still think they are a key part to the makeup of their team in order to be successful.

By the way, in no way should my above post be construed that I believe the Wilson hit should have drawn a suspension, if anything, I think his hit in the previous series against Columbus was a much more egregious act. This one was 50/50 and I thought the league's explanation was pretty good.

18 months per the CBA.

I think if you play on the edge and have talent you can find a job. But the guys who JUST played on the edge have been fading out over the past decade, especially as the game has gotten faster.

But that's kind of the classic "playoff build" we're all told is needed to make it deep in the playoffs, right? You have to be tough, gritty, and hard to make it in the playoffs, right? Previous Caps' teams were derided as too soft. So, yeah, it's sadly part of the culture of the game and viewed by fans, GMs, and players as necessary for playoff success. (example - any Don Cherry commentary ever)

I think that culture is changing. But remember that rules can change fast, but people (and culture) change slowly.

I thought they clarified at one point that the 18 months was only for the elevated fines that can be issued and not for increased supplemental discipline?

And for what it's worth as an outside, I saw no issue with Wilson's hit.

I think the only reason it got as much attention as it did was because it was a guy with a history that did it. But judging this particular play entirely on its own merits, no suspension was the right call to me.

I do have a bias against the Caps. Very true. However, I was never a Cooke fan

Patiently waiting for @Comeds prognostication on Game 3.
After I failed in game one; I figured my jinxing powers left me. Probably when I donated platelets or when I showered for the first time in two weeks.
So, I am scared to tempt fate.

I think you're right - Corey Perry got suspended a couple of seasons ago and was labelled a repeat offender for an incident that happened 4 years prior to that.

With that being said, if Tom Wilson could add a little more troll and a little less out of control to his game he could be a superstar.
