I've got no love for Wilson, but I didn't see that as suspension worthy.

Borderline for sure, close to dirty, and it sucks for my team. But I think they got this right.

Agreed... Wilson does some dumb things but I think some pens fans forget about guys like kasparatis and ulffy samuelson. Let's not throw stones

Not throwing stones. In a vaccuum, looking at this play only and the rulebook, I think they got it wrong by over-applying the verbiage to the situation. That is all.

You mean this guy? He's a saint that helps out widows and orphans. Salt of the earth type guy. Who could possibly say anything bad about him?

"Well with your bad back, Ed. You shouldn't be throwing anyone."

Amplified by the fact that it's the second time this playoffs they've done it related to the same guy.

The DOPeS are tasked with protecting player safety. By letting repeat offenders get away with it seems to go against the old mission statement.

In case anyone wanted the video explanation on the Wilson hit (4th hit in the video):

DOPS on unavoidable head contact

Pretty good video. It's really hard to judge some of them. The more I watch the Wilson hit, the more I lean toward suspension, but it's like 60/40. The Hornqvist one seemed the worst of the bunch. The Sergachev hit seemed like he did absolutely nothing wrong. But someone might watch that same set and think differently.

I'm always a fan of bright line rules, because what we get upset about with these situations is the subjectivity. In the long term, I think a zero tolerance policy on head hits will become the rule. It will unfairly punish some guys or give teams power plays. But it puts the onus on the players to control their checks in the same way they are responsible for their sticks. Until they adopt a more objective policy, the rulings will be frustrating and the interpretations varied.

The rule is simple to understand.

1 If my guy hits your guy in the head, it is legal.
2 If your guy hits my guy in the head, it is illegal.

So reading the rules the NHL got it wrong.:thumb:

What a load of shit. Because some previous Pen was an asshat means Pens fans can't call out another asshat? How stoopid

This right here.

I used to be a huge NFL and Steelers fan. I haven't watched an NFL game since half time of week 3. I was already getting frustrated with the fact that the officiating was getting ridiculous. I used to be able to watch a game and be able to identify what was a legal hit, what was pass interference, and even what was a catch. Time after time games were being decided by the finest minute detail of a rule and that final ruling didn't match what I saw with my own eyes. Only to get some BS explanation that tells me what I saw isn't what I saw. Then what happened in week 3 with the protest was the final straw, but that's a whole other story.

These leagues need to understand that when what fans see and what the officials call do not match, people are going to lose interest.

I'm not saying that is the case with this call. To me, he went for the head shot, but I can't say without a doubt that was his intent. However, this hit needs to be taken into account if there is another borderline hit.

OK. stepping off the soapbox now......
