First comes cuts. Starting with Drafting Frees replacement. Can Martin play RT and Collins move to RG? I think Gregory has earned the right to be cut, I know im alone but Claiborne can go if he wants any thing more than #3cb money. I like the interior DL. The edges need to be up graded. Hopefully the Lee/Smith combo at LB is a dynamic dou. Church needs to be replaced. On offense Free maybe you try and up grade over Butler and/or Lucky

Leary is gone, Collins will likely play guard. Martin is the best interior lineman in the game, why mess with that? Find a RT, Free didn't set the bar real high

It's going to be an interesting offseason. There is the one train of thought that we just need a pass rush and we are Super Bowl ready, but the club has a lot of guys up for FA. Leary is gone, Church, Wilcox, Claiborne and Carr are all FA's, McFadden and Dunbar are FA's, TWill and Butler, Escobar, McClain is a FA, Irving and exclusive rights, and Durant is a FA. Zach Martin has one year left, obviously, he needs to be locked up, past that their other major stars are locked up. There may be some serious reshaping of the roster to build for the long term future, and it's likely they continue by drafting the best player available in the draft. Last season, there were a lot of experts ripping the Cowboys for not taking Bosa or Ramsey, but things worked out pretty well...

Ok, here's my attempt at our FA list:

Sanchez QB - UFA - see ya
Moore QB - UFA - 2 years backup money?
McFadden RB - UFA see ya
Dunbar RB - UFA make good for your injuries? 2 year ?
TWilliams WR -UFA wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. SEE YA
Brice Butler - UFA Would like to get him back as our #2 if cheap
Escobar TE -UFA See ya
Leary - G UFA Would love to keep you, will be too expensive
Crawford DE - UFA Want him back
Davis DE- RFA bye
McClain DT - UFA Want him back if cheap
Irving DT - Exclusive FA see ya, will want to cash in on 2 quarters of play
Ash DT - Exclusive FA never heard of you
McClain LB - UFA bye, not good by, just bye
Gachkar LB -UFA like him as depth, if cheap
Durant LB - UFA like him as depth if cheap
Carr CB - UFA showed he can play in a contract year, has an odd "voidable" year under contract with no base salary (2 year cheap deal?)
Claiborne CB -UFA Want him back if he is ok with 3rd string money
Thomas CB - UFA not enough info
Church FS- UFA He's good but can't count on him. 1 year max if can't upgrade
Wilcox FS -UFA Good depth, hate to see him out there.

Free has 1 year at $15M

Now with that info written down, above are my thoughts.

I am confident the right moves will be made. Something I wasn't, at all sure of 10 years ago, but that has changed the last few

Same. Makes it very exciting. The Cowboys should clear about $5 million in space when Romo leaves, obviously they are gonna cut Free, they are gonna sign Martin to a long term deal.. they can clear space as they need to. It will be fun to see what Stephen and McClay decide to do when they actually have a little breathing room with their cap

Update after yesterday's games should have Dallas picking at 28 I think, but interesting early assessment

Walt's Dallas Cowboys Mock Selections
  • Rd. 1, Pk. 31 Jalen Tabor, CB, Florida

    Florida_logo.gif

Jalen Tabor's stock has taken a hit, as he was once projected as a top-10 prospect. The 20-25 range makes sense for him, but I have him falling to the Cowboys in this mock draft update. I'm sure the Cowboys would love to scoop him up if that were the case, as Tabor provides immense value at No. 31 overall. He would also fill a big need at cornerback.

Pick change; previously Adoree Jackson, CB

  • Rd. 2, Pk. 31 Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama
    image: http://walterfootball.com/college/SouthAlabama_logo.gif

    SouthAlabama_logo.gif

Jason Witten doesn't have much time remaining in the NFL, so the Cowboys could stand to use an early selection on a tight end.

  • Rd. 3, Pk. 31 Daeshon Hall, DE/3-4OLB, Texas A&M
    image: http://walterfootball.com/college/TexasAM_logo.gif

    TexasAM_logo.gif

The Cowboys could stand to bolster their pass rush, which tends to be pretty inconsistent. It would help if Randy Gregory could play, but Dallas has to move on, given that he can't stay out of trouble.

  • Rd. 4, Pk. 30
The Cowboys could do better at receiver across from Dez Bryant, and it would be nice for Dak Prescott to have a potent downfield threat for when Bryant is out of the lineup.

Pick change; previously Malachi Dupre, WR

If round 2 goes to Jerry, I would just assume trade back for multiple picks. Jaylon is still an uncertainty, as UK said but previous records show..............

Last years round 2 pick might make up for a lot of the past failures if he is right..

yeah, but that's how every years 2nd round is. Which I'm fine with him gambling if he will leave Round 1 alone. Smith might be a stud, I sure hope he is. This could go down as the greatest draft for Dallas of all time, even better than the Spears/Ware draft.

Speaking of which, we need another draft like that one where we get like 5 pro-bowl defenders from it.

I'm actually hoping for a WR in round 2. I know that sounds stupid, but I'll give rounds 1, 3, 4, and 6 for defense. In round 2 I want a legit #2 WR with size and hands. I'll give up lots of speed if he can run a route and get anything that comes his way. In the 5th I want a QB. I want someone behind Dak and learning the right way to play for as long as he can behind Dak.

Do we have any picks that we have lost, gained, or compensation picks? Or are we just standard 1-7 picks?
