Just saw this, posted right after the draft…

dated, sure, but at least it shows he was excited to be drafted…

Apparently, so. According to the draft tracker, he signed for $2M

I have had that page open since the draft and constantly updating it. I even updated it before I posted my comment asking if he had signed, and it wasn’t there yet. So this is BRAND NEW news!

I am very happy with this. That means we got 2 legit prospects out of this draft off the top. With no 2nd or 3rd rounders.

I may strongly dislike FZ, but I gotta tip my hat when it is deserved.

I just found a reference to his signing from about the time of the Soler trade. It just didn’t get much traction in the Giants-verse, for obvious reasons.

I am just SHOCKED that he signed for under 2nd Rd $$. It makes no sense to me, but I will take it.

He had leverage (being a redshirt sophomore). I guess he was eager to start his professional career.

Than why were the Giants the only team to know this? He was projected as a high 2nd rounder going into the draft, yet he dropped to the mid-4th. Why?

They got it done, and no other team did. So either they missed the cancerous tumor that every other team saw, or they actually talked to him and found that he wanted to play while every other team just assumed he wouldn’t sign.

I have no idea what the story is. Both of those scenarios seem like BS to me.

With the information we have access to, the Giants played this great. I will choose to believe this one on its face.

It looks like the only player they didn’t sign was 19th rounder Ryan Ure. 20th rounder Fernando Gonzalez is still listed as unsigned on the MLB Draft Tracker, but he is listed on the SF Giants transaction site.

I read somewhere that it was always unlikely they would sign Ure

Team website that all but one draft pick (Ure) was signed and that they also signed two NDFAs:

July 31: Giants sign 17 of 18 players from 2024 Draft class
The Giants announced Wednesday that they signed all but one of their Draft selections, including first-rounder James Tibbs III and fourth-rounder Dakota Jordan, who signed for $1,997,500, well above the slot value for the No. 116 overall pick ($624,800). The lone holdout was 19th-rounder Ryan Ure, a left-handed pitcher out of Oklahoma State.
San Francisco also added two undrafted free agents in University of North Carolina right-hander Ben Peterson and Presbyterian College left-hander Charlie McDaniel.

James Tibbs, Dakota Jordan and Jakob Christian have all been assigned to the ACL team.
Conservative for Tibbs and Dakota. But again, I assume there are HR issues at play here as well.

It is weird that Hipwell goes straight to San Jose but Tibbs and Jordan go to the ACL. However, I don't think it is the first time the Giants have put lower round guys at a more advanced level than higher picks right away.
