I don't mind giving up on THIS season, but I don't want to endanger NEXT season with trades now. The problem this season is the same as in 2011 : lots and lots of injuries. There's no reason the Giants can't take it all in 2014

Marco summed up exactly what most of us are saying

I'd want to take another shot at a title run with this group (adding in some areas) and hope they can avoid the injury bug.

Legit trade pieces...

Timmeh - Sabes already said, point blank, Timmeh aint getting traded. Sabes may hold his cards close to the vest, but he doesn't bluff. Timmeh aint getting traded.

Pence - Certainly getting a QO if he does not get traded, so he would require AT LEAST a #30-#35 pick value in return. Not sure he is having enough of a year to command that price tag.

Romo - I have been championing this idea, but I doubt it will happen. Having no closer is more detrimental to a team's psyche than just about anything. Maybe trade him in the off-season.

Lopez - He is valuable, but what kind of return would we get? We gave up Turpin to get him. Remember him? Yea, I hardly do either.

Sandoval - He has another year of team control, so at worst, the new team could offer him a QO, so he should demand a decent price. I am thinking AT LEAST 1 blue-chipper. Prob is that we have no one to man the position for the rest of the year.

Belt - While he has a lot of talent, he has to be classified as a bust at this point. Would we be able to get anything worthwhile in return? I think he has more value as a Giant than as a trade chip.

Gaudin - The "incident" reduces his value. I also think the G's want to keep him in hand for next year.

Casilla - See Lopez. I doubt he would fetch as much as he brings to the Giants.

Scutaro - His contract makes him hard to move. His contract also, in a way, makes him valuable to the Giants. He is a place-holder for Panik/Arroyo/Cavan/etc

Blanco/Torres - I would be OK trading Torres for ANYTHING. Blanco is still under team control for another year (or 2??), and I like him.

Posey/Cain/Bum/Craw - not going anywhere. They are the current core.

Or he could run as a Democrat for mayor of New York. Or San Diego. The "incident" would work in his favor in that case.

Or run for VP and lose, or president and win twice...

Ok, enough of that. Lets keep that off this board...

Correction...

Over the years, in my head, I switched the RamRam and JLo trades...

We gave up Bowker and Martinez for JLo. That was actually a pretty decent haul at the time.

In what sense? (PIT got a lot, or SF got a great deal AT THE TIME of the trade)

I meant that Pit got a decent haul for a guy who really hadn't established himself yet. They got a young power guy with moderate potential and a kid who had potential to be a journeyman 4/5. Not a bad haul for a 7th inning guy.

As it turned out...

Bowker and Martinez both busted out, and JLo got two rings and established himself as an elite role-bully guy.

UPDATE: Yankees officially complete Alfonso Soriano*trade | SI Wire

Cubs send Soriano AND $17.7 million to the Yankees for Corey Black. Kid wasn't even a top 20 prospect. How badly did the Chubs want to get rid of Soriano?

Salary relief. I said at the time the cubbies signed that contract that they would regret it long before it was over. (Same thing I said about the Tigers signing Fielder.) Crazy money for someone who will break down long before the end of the contract.

It looks like the cubbies are collecting ex-Giants : Cole Gillespie, Cody Ransom, Nate.

(Nate is still kicking ass in ChiTown : .280/.337/.528/.864 )

All the way back to 1990, huh? Wow, you poor long suffering fan. I waited from 1968 (when I was born) to 2010 for a championship.

Now STFU. You get to complain in 2030.

For arguments sake, lets assume we tank bad enough to get a top 10 pick.

That means our pick is protected, so we can go after QO guys without the loss of our #1. Hello Choo.

If we keep Timmeh and Pence this week, then we can offer QOs to them, and either keep them in the fold, r receive picks when they walk. Ad the draft is supposed to be VERY nice this year.

If we trade either of them instead, they will not be eligible for QO offers, and the G's can pursue either is they so choose. I can see them at least getting in the convo for both. This may be the best option, since we could potentially add to the system AND have then next year. These kinds of deals rarely happen, though. In fact, I cannot think of it ever happening, even though I am sure it has happened. At the same time, when was the last time a team sold when they had a core as strong as this team. We still expect to be right in the thick of things next year.

Ether way, the Giants are in a pretty good position moving forward. They are strong in the low minors (uber-arms, Cabrera, Ryder Jones, Arroyo, Javier) and they could restock in the 14 draft with multiple high picks and the ability to build through FA.

It may be raining today, but the grass looks to be green tomorrow.

trade player except for a select few for prospects and young players. Might suck for a few years, but the farm is empty of any real talent and the players that were good on the team have gotten injured, old and used up.

Pablo needs to go to an AL team in need of a DH.

Blanco and Torres just need to go for anything. The Giants have minor league players who can not hit just as well as they do. Maybe they can even run the bases correctly.

Timmy has no control of his pitches get something for him. He is sure as shit gone in the off season anyway. Heck I don't even care if comes back to be a 5th guy in the rotation.

Lopez, Affeldt, and Romo could get a few good prospects. Every team needs bullpen help.

Zito is going to be a free agent after this year. If the Giants can get him to wave the no trade clause and ship him to a contender who needs a fifth starter for anything its all gravy.

Quiroz and Sanchez can go as well. Just DFA Quiroz he blows and Sanchez can go be a back up on a team who needs a catcher who cant play defense or hit.

Scutoro can be traded to a team that can use a no defense but can hit second baseman.

They can become the Red Sox of last year. They got a bunch of real good prospects and young players. This year they are in first place and they have a bunch of great prospects to bring up the next 2 years to make their team even better and to prepare for the lose of key players next year like Elsbury.

I sure wish they followed my plan.

The Giants have some ticket-takers they should have traded for some good prospects as well. I have no idea why they didn't do that.

Incompetence, I tell you.

The whole lot of them should be fired. Without a doubt, the WORST front office in the league.

Yikes! Not that chick on the 3rd baseline in the 8th last night! I haven't watched the game yet- were Kruk & Kuip giving her any grief? From my perspective, she looked completely clueless!
