Rarely do I feel any emotion when it comes to the personal lives of entertainers, sports, public figures etc.

But, I actually feel this loss.

I remember watching the Timberpups during the Starbury, Big Ticket days and thinking that Flip actually gave a shit about those young guys as people, and not just as basketball prodigies.

Maybe if they had more Men like him in sports, we wouldn't have so many situations like Allen Iverson, Antoine Walker and Lamar Odom.

Then again, we can't expect Coach's to raise our kids for us.

He seemed like a good man and I'm sorry we won't get the chance to see what he could have done with this very young and very talented Minny team.

Not that any of these are good things or deserved, but somebody asked me if I could, without the use of statistics, rid the world of a few things, in order, what would they be? My answer, after a little bit of thought, was:

1. Cancer.
2. Accidents like crashes, lightning strikes, fire, etc.
3. Murders.
4. r*pe/Assault.
5. Burglary/Theft/Fraud.

I mean, perhaps a better one to think would be homelessness or depression or addiction or something that affects more people. That was just my thought at the time. I considered the innocence of victim. I'm not saying that anyone deserves to be murdered, and I know that there could be people who bring cancer to themselves by smoking or something, but I felt that cancer was more innocent than somebody who might have done something to make someone want to murder them. And then I thought that accidents are more immediate in death and more of a shock to family then a slow cancer death. Again, no one deserves to die by these.

If I were to really get rid of something, it would be probably homelessness or hunger just because I feel that that might cause more damage to more people. That might have more effect on the world at large.

Sorry for the tangent and I don't mean to be controversial. I lost my dog to cancer and I've had friends who have lost their lives that way. Thankfully, knock on wood, I have not had immediate family with that.

What a bummer. RIP Flip

I'd been following along since it came out he wasn't doing so well about a month ago and it sounds like the cancer isn't what killed him, but instead he reacted badly to the treatment.

Really sad day for the Timberwolves family. Before KG and Flip, the organization was struggling to establish itself. They gave us 10+ years of excitement, though it never culminated in the ultimate goal. The Wolves floundered once again without them, only to have both come back and give us hope for the future.

I knew he had cancer, but was this unexpected? I thought he had been doing alright.

There was a report earlier in this month that he wasn't doing so well and would likely miss the season but dying so soon? Yeah unexpected since this just became known to the public in August.

damn. prayers to his family and friends.

On a bright note, one really cool thing as a coach is you get to influence and impact so many peoples lives. Especially a guy who has been coaching so long he's made it his career. Flip Saunders no doubt has influenced many lives and made a real impact on not only peoples lives, but communities.

RIP coach.

Yep.

It is estimated that 1 out of every 10 "cancer death" is from the treatment and not the disease itself....and that number is probably incredibly low as doctors have a heavily invested reason not to report the death that way.

In 50 years chemotherapy and radiation will likely be looked on as being as barbaric and silly as treatment with leeches.

Despite all the money that we have invested into research into cures and treatments from cancer, we are still a LONG ways away from getting it even close to right.

Lost my beautiful sister in law to cancer on June 11 and she was only 55.
Too many young people (60 is young) are dying from this curse.

It's time to stop finding treatments for cancer and diabetes etc. It's time to find cures.
Too many good people are dying. To many companies making money from treatment.
