Crazy deal. I guess they will not be keeping Scherzer. They should look to trade him mid-season. Get what they can for him.

Tigers are in all-in mode. The Indians and Royals are probably not going to blow the Tigers out of the playoff race. They will eat his loss. What hurt the Tigers was getting jack for what Fister's trade value was.

Seems like a panic move after Scherzer turned them down. No logical reason to extend him to that deal, and even less reason to do it now.

So sad.

But I guess we shall see what he really is as a player without the protection of FIelder

He'll still hit for over .300, average 30+ homers and over 100rbis, and have an obp around .400

His production may drop a bit, but he's still a great player.

Given how many sluggers seem to fall off around 33ish (whether by injuries, decline, or both), I would be worried about more than just the final 3 years. They just tend not to age well.

definately don't use Pujols as an example, Miggy is different.

Why not? There are certainly similarities....

-Both were elite hitters and sluggers throughout their 20s
-Both have similar body types (Pujols is 6'3, 230 and Cabrera 6'4, 240)
-Both became fulltime players at age 21 (which may not bode well given the mileage already on those bodies)

Almost everyone isnt a fan of this deal but I have a question for you all. Is this money coming out of your pockets?

The answer you all are looking for is "no." So deal with it.

I completely agree with BOTH of your posts...just a bit of sarcasm...Pujols is the perfect example and ARod second.

Miggy's last 3 years:
.270 average, 31 HR total, .749 OPS

And 4 years,. $124 million left on that deal...becoming very possible that he'll end up being a below average player for 7 of the 8 years of that extension..

I like the 30 million vesting option if he comes in the top ten in MVP voting in 2023 and 2024
