The guy was CLEARLY underpaid for the last what 4 years or so, maybe his entire time in Detriot....so what about the last half of the contract...of course its not going to look good then...but it sure looked great paying nothing early in his career...

So sad.

But I guess we shall see what he really is as a player without the protection of FIelder

328/420/622/1.042
344/448/586/1.033

Those were his lines the 2 years before Fielder came to town, so I'm going to go with he'll do ok.

Ridiculous. The Angels, Tigers and Mariners are all going to be wallowing in the basement of their respective divisions with their horrible contacts in 5-6 years from now.

What Im really concerned aboot..... Can we afford to keep Don Kelly next year? (Fans of shit teams teams would love to face these issues. It's a future cap and what happens to existing contracts that's actually concerning about moronic contracts like this. Detroit sells tickets, affording this wont be an issue barring a hard cap. Just my opinion. An opinion that thinks this was a bad decision btw.)

Miggy is an absolute beast... and it's been a pleasure to watch him play the past 8-9 years or so and I have the utmost respect for him, but the Tigers gave him way too many years. For someone that projects to become a DH in the next couple of years this is EXTREMELY pricey.

Couple is a drastic stretch. His issue as a first baseman was ranging too far. (Lets not forget his back to back MVPs were as a third baseman, thats a unique feat.)He has plenty of years to turn into a slow footed liability. But there are more than enough years on this deal to see that happen. No player can be accurately forecasted for a decade.

We will see. I think 2 years from now he starts DH'ing part-time at least. If not then in 3-4 years for sure. Which means 6-7 of those years in his contract will be for a DH. Pretty pricey for a DH if you ask me.

Naw. He's not going to DH until hes forced to. I understand that people who don't watch him play day in day out dont appreciate his game for anything other than at the plate. Which is fine, it's what Sports Center does to people. But he's been the best base runner on his team for several years (since the Granderson trade) and has more than willingly changed position three times now as a Tiger. And done so at a clip that doesn't get the respect it deserves(defensive stats are for nerds). If he moves to DH it won't be on account of him being unable to play elsewhere as much as it will be someone else being more capable of playing a position. (He's started over 100 games at 4 different positions. Less than 40 as a DH.)

Alright -- I still don't like the length of the contract, but it isn't as bad as I thought.

When they said he signed a 10 year deal -- I was thinking, he has 2 years left on his current deal and 10 more years after that meant the Tigers were paying him this when he was 42.

It isn't as if it is that much better, but the actual extension is 8 years 248 million. the 10 year 292 million includes the 2 years he has left with the team.

Still going to be a rough contract at the end, but at least it saves a couple years on the back end I was really worried about. Instead of worrying about the last 5 years of the deals, now I will only worry about the last 3 years of the deal.:laugh3:

Crazy deal. I guess they will not be keeping Scherzer. They should look to trade him mid-season. Get what they can for him.

Given how many sluggers seem to fall off around 33ish (whether by injuries, decline, or both), I would be worried about more than just the final 3 years. They just tend not to age well.

This deal is stupid. Somewhere A-Rod and Pujols are lighting up cigars and saying "Hey Miggy! Welcome to the club!"

Also, Trout is gonna get over 400 mil. Book it
