But is that what it takes to have a fighting chance, a controversy involving the head coach that causes distractions to the game?

Sounds like desperation.

Nope, I would rather lose to a healthy and complete ohio state than beat a wounded nut. It's past hate ... we need revenge.

There’s no need to protect Zach Smith if he was never convicted of anything

Then it comes down to should he have morally made the decision to fire a guy with bad accusations against him

Hopefully more is known after the two week deadline set by the OSU investigation

Doen't really matter that Zack Smith wasn't convicted of anything by law enforcement.
It seemingly would be an Ohio St inside policy issue.

I think the committee formed to investigate the issue will be thorough, given it could take 2 weeks.
They'll be getting police reports, interviews with responding officers, other coaches, their spouses, the alleged victim, Zack Smith, Gene Smith. etc.

Either way, If they find Gene Smith culpable, they find same with Urbs, as they both had authority to let Zack Smith go.

It was Urban's job to make his boss aware. It was his boss's job to find out what happened. If Gene came back and said, "There is nothing there", why would Urban fire him?

Domestic Violence is a police matter. If Suburban Meyer did anything to dissuade anyone from pressing charges or interfering with prosecution, he needs to be fired. If that didn't happen, apologize and reinstate him.

Then why would Gene Smith be forced into retirement either? I.E. 'The Fall Guy'

Urbs would seemingly know more about the Zack Smith family as they are close personal friends. He'd be more apt to protect that families economic well being than Gene Smith did.
Zack Smith is the grandson of Earl Bruce. Urbs mentor only 2nd to Urbs very father. Zack is like a son to the Meyers.

Who would be more apt to protect Zack Smith, Urb's or Gene Smith?
You can't dismiss Gene Smith (fall guy) for not doing what Urbs himself could have done.

It's also covered under university policy.

If it were all about the popo and the courts, there would be no investigating committee formed by the trustees.

I personally don't really agree with holding a Head Coach responsible for every single thing that surrounds a football program.

Urbs could have fired Zack Smith too though.
Why assign culpability to Gene Smith alone?

Urbs had more reason to retain Zack Smith than Gene Smith did.
Gene Smith is above Urban. Not firing a guy isn't grounds to be fired yourself, especially when there are no formal charges and plenty of people have said she was batshit crazy herself.

.
I disagree

Then why the investigating committee?

We already know Zack Smith wasn't convicted of anything in 2015.

Isn't that the primary excuse by Ohio St fans as to why Zack Smith kept his job?

I think Meyer would have been fired or "resigned" already if that was going to be the outcome.

I could be wrong but i'm guessing they have already came to the conclusion that Meyer technically didnt do anything wrong (You can debate wether keeping Smith on staff as long as he was, was right/wrong or whatever) They're probably coming out with a way to present that, if they came out right away and said "hes staying" the public outrage mob's heads would explode. Not that they arent going to anyway but I understand the "taking their time" to announce thing.

Ohio State athletics department saying "well he really didnt do anything wrong" is going to get a "of course they would say that"

The committee is basically for "damage control" I guess you'd call it.

If Meyer did indeed follow proper protocol as claimed, there is literally no grounds for firing. No matter how much people want to argue the "morals" of keeping Smith on staff as long as he was.

Easy

They HAVE to make sure there are no more skellys in the closet. If something else bad came out on top of this little shit show, then things get really bad for the university. They're doing a deep dive to make sure no Brett McMurphy-type story blindsides them again.

Get this through your head. Urban Meyer could have fired Zack Smith.
He is the first link in Zack Smith's chain of command.

That you want Gene Smith fired for something Urbs himself could have done is a laugher.
Zack Smith was more Urbs employee and personal family friend than Gene Smith was.

Common sense says if you dismiss Gene Smith you must also dismiss Urbs.

Seems to only be common sense to you

I've heard national sports radio saying Gene could go and Urban stay.

If they fire Urban, there is no need to fire Gene Smith. That doesn't make sense.

One person or zero persons will lose their job unless there is something deeper we don't know about.

I agree. They want the coals to cool.
I do believe the committee is doing a thorough investigation though, and could take a couple weeks.

People investigate everything anymore ... an investigation means nothing.

Personally after we beat ohio state a couple of times, I don't give a shit what happens to Suburban Meyer.

They said they "expect" it to be finished within 2 weeks.

Not sure how "thorough" of an investigation you need. Pretty much the only question is "did Meyer follow the proper protocol as required by his contract" I'd say there is a pretty easy answer there from the people inside the Athletic Department and University Higher Ups.

Exactly. So this isn't all about Zack Smith not being convicted in a court of law, is it?

It's about university policy now.
