OL Dan Samuelson announces Michigan transfer on social media | CollegeFootballTalk
For the eighth time since Jim Harbaugh took over at Michigan, a Brady Hoke signee/player has taken his leave of Ann Arbor.

The latest to do so is Dan Samuelson, who took to social media Saturday to announce that he has decided to take his leave of the Wolverines and continue his collegiate career at an undetermined elsewhere. Labeling it “incredibly tough,” Samuelson said he arrived at his decision “after doing much research and talking with my parents.”

Washington senior OG Dexter Charles retires | CollegeFootballTalk
“We’re all very disappointed that Dexter’s injury won’t allow him to continue to play,” Washington head coach Chris Petersen said in a released statement. “I’m grateful for his dedication and hard work and very pleased that he earned his degree. He’s interested in the coaching profession, and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Losing Charles is a significant blow to Washington’s already inexperienced offensive line. The Huskies were scheduled to return just two starters from last season, with Charles at left guard and Coleman Shelton at right tackle. Shelton was not a full-time starter either, but he will now likely take on a full-time starting gig on the line. As reported by The Seattle Times, Charles had previously started 30 games for the Huskies.

Junior Jake Eldenkamp is expected to move into the left guard position now vacated by Charles as the Washington offensive line looks to regroup and build a new identity this fall.

2015 Louisville signee James Allen headed to the Herd | CollegeFootballTalk
One member of Louisville’s most recent recruiting class will apparently end up beginning his collegiate career with a Conference USA member instead.

Citing an unnamed source, 247Sports.com has reported that James Allen will enroll in classes at Marshall and become a member of the Thundering Herd football team. Allen will sit out the 2015 season, the recruiting website reports, and then have four years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016.

The Louisville Courier-Journal writes that “Allen… would presumably be a partial- or non-qualifying member of the Marshall football program.”

A three-star member of the UofL’s 2015 recruiting class, Jones was rated byRivals.com as the No. 61 running back in the country and the No. 95 player at any position in the state of Florida. He was rated by 247Sports.com as a four-star prospect.

Ex-Penn State QB Tyler Ferguson transferring from Louisville, too | CollegeFootballTalk
With one move, Louisville’s five-man quarterback competition has been pared down to four — and by a player used to moving at that.

While the school has yet to announce it, Scout.com is reporting that Tyler Ferguson has decided to transfer out of the Cardinals’ football program. According to the report, Ferguson has been granted a full release to transfer to another football program.

The move away from the Cardinals marks Ferguson’s second departure from a Power Five school in less than two years.

Knee injury will sideline starting BYU TE for all of 2015 | CollegeFootballTalk
And the hits just keep on coming on the offensive side of the ball for BYU.

Earlier this month it was announced that star running back Jamaal Williams had withdrawn from school and would not play for the Cougars at all in 2015. Shortly thereafter, head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced that starting tight end Steven Richards will not play at all in 2015 because of injury.

Richards sustained a non-contact injury to his right knee during Monday’s practice. He will undergo surgery to repair the unspecified damage in the near future.

While Richards took a redshirt for his true freshman season last year — he was a two-star member of BYU’s 2012 recruiting class who went on a mission prior to joining the Cougars — he entered camp as the No. 1 tight end, and held on to that spot on the depth chart all the way up until Monday’s injury.

In addition to the injury woes for two starters, “10-ish” players are expected to be suspended for the opener against Nebraska because of their role in the infamous bowl brawl. The names of the suspended ones haven’t been divulged.

Jalen Embry leaving Iowa, will play at JUCO level | CollegeFootballTalk
Kirk Ferentz announced Tuesday that Jalen Embry has decided to transfer from his football program and continue his collegiate playing career elsewhere. Specifically, the defensive back will move on to an unspecified JUCO program.

“Jalen Embry has decided to leave the football team,” the long-time head coach said in a statement. “Jalen has elected to continue his academic and football career at a junior college and leaves Iowa in good standing; both academically and through his citizenship. Our staff and Jalen’s teammates wish him the best.”

Ex-4-star Tar Heel Tyrell Tomlin declared academically ineligible | CollegeFootballTalk
In a press release, North Carolina has announced that Tomlin (pictured, No. 20) has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2015 season. Not only that, but Tomlin is no longer enrolled in classes at the university.

A four-star member of the Tar Heels’ 2014 recruiting class, Tomlin was rated as the No. 16 inside linebacker in the country and the No. 30 player at any position in the state of Georgia. He played in 10 games as a true freshman, and was credited with four tackles.

Entering summer camp, Tomlin was expected to take on a bigger role in 2015.

‘Huskers lose De’Mornay Pierson-El for up to two months with foot injury | CollegeFootballTalk
Nebraska announced early Wednesday afternoon that De’Mornay Pierson-El will miss a period of 6-8 weeks because of a foot injury. Pierson-El sustained the injury, the exact nature of which wasn’t detailed, during Tuesday’s practice.

As previously noted, the wide receiver’s absence will impact two of the Cornhuskers’ three units.

As a true freshman last season, Pierson-El started six games, catching 23 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. His 17.9 yards per punt return was good for second nationally, while his three returns for touchdowns was tied for tops in the country.

He was a consensus Freshman All-American.

Given the 6-8 week timeline, Pierson-El will certainly miss all four games the first month of the season: Sept. 5 vs. BYU, Sept. 12 vs. South Alabama, Sept. 19 at Miami and Sept. 26 vs. Southern Miss. The long end of the prognosis could see him miss the next two games against Illinois (Oct. 3) and the crucial Big Ten West showdown against Wisconsin (Oct. 10).

Immediate Wazzu eligibility for ex-Clemson WR Kyrin Priester | CollegeFootballTalk
Expected to be forced to sit out his first season at a new school, Kyrin Priester will instead have the opportunity to be an immediate contributor.

According to WazzuWatch.com,Rivals.com‘s Washington State website, Priester has won his appeal for immediate eligibility and will play for the Cougars this fall. No reason for the basis of the initial appeal for the hardship waiver was given.

It should be noted that Wazzu has yet to publicly announce Priester’s status for the 2015 season.

After getting the boot by Clemson in September of 2014, the wide receiversigned with Wazzu two months later.

Priester signed with Clemson in 2013 but spent that year at Fork Union Military Academy. He enrolled at Clemson in January of this year and played in one game for the Tigers, the season opener. He was dismissed by head coach Dabo Swinney shortly after the opener for what was described as an “attitude” issue.

Vandy sustains another season-ending loss, this one to its starting LT | CollegeFootballTalk
Vandy announced Thursday that Andrew Jelks sustained a non-specified knee injury during an 11-on-11 practice session Wednesday night. As a result, the offensive lineman will all of the upcoming season.

“I’m really disappointed for Andrew because he’s such a fine young man,” head coach Derek Mason said in a statement. “Andrew was having an excellent camp and was looking forward to having a big year. He’s a tremendous talent who commands respect throughout the locker room. Andrew’s a dedicated, hard worker and I know he will come back even stronger.

“It’s time for others to step up and claim a more substantial role in the success of our offense. We definitely have players on our roster that can fill the void left by Andrew’s departure.”

Booted by Hoosiers, Antonio Allen to start over at FCS Sycamores | CollegeFootballTalk
Wednesday, Indiana State announced that Allen has transferred into the Sycamores football program. Because ISU, headed by former UNLV head coach Mike Sanford, plays at the FCS level, the defensive back would be eligible to play immediately in 2015; he won’t, however, play immediately and will instead take a redshirt because of his ongoing legal issues.

Allen is currently facing multiple felony charges, charges that include dealing meth, heroin and cocaine. Following his mid-June dismissal, it was reported that video surveillance, provided by a police informant, reportedly captured Allen counting money and weighing narcotics at his apartment.
