Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com reported Friday afternoon Johnson had enrolled at the community college, saying he expects to play football this fall. Classes begin on Monday for Johnson.
Coming off the best season since, well, the previous season, Minnesota has rewarded head coach Jerry Kill with a little bit more job security as he prepares for the 2015 season. On Friday the school announced a one-year contract extension, giving Kill a job at Minnesota through the 2019 season. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The Big Ten is printing money with the Big Ten Network. The SEC Network celebrated a wildly successful first year on the air. Meanwhile, the Pac-12 Network continues to fight an uphill battle compared to its power conference brethren. Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott has continued to promote the Pac-12 Networks, but accessibility issues continue to plague around Pac-12 states and fans are right to be frustrated. Could this all be solved before the start of the new college football season? If not, it will not be for a lack of trying.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the Pac-12 is working hard on finalizing a deal with DirecTV by September 3 to make the Pac-12 Networks available in more homes of Pac-12 fans. The continued standoff between the Pac-12 and DirecTV has been an infuriating one for many fans, but AT&T’s recent purchase of the satellite provider has provided a glimmer of hope to those unable to watch any number of football games in recent falls. AT&T recently purchased DirecTV, with over 4 million customers residing in Pac-12 states.
Here some Houston news, new coach bringing the heat
It's that time of year. Just glad CS has not lowered the boom on any guys, yet...
Sounds like Charlie has succumbed to the pressure of the boosters and fans to back off on the tight ship stuff.
More under-achievement on the way....

“The only date they could play [2019] we already have two Power 5 [conference teams] on the schedule,” Lyons said. “We could not move those. We wanted to try and get [the neutral-site game] done, but just could not work out the dates.” West Virginia is scheduled to play at Missouri and home against NC State in 2019.
Florida State has neutral site games lined up in 2016 (vs. Ole Miss in Orlando) and 2017 (vs. Alabama in Atlanta), and still has some scheduling holes to fill in 2018 and beyond. As a member of the ACC, Florida State is required to play one game each season against another power conference opponent. This is typically satisfied annually with a game against Florida, but Notre Dame also pops up on the FSU schedule in 2018 (in South Bend). Florida State also has a home-and-home series with Boise State slated to start in 2019. West Virginia has no such power conference scheduling requirement in the Big 12.
West Virginia currently has its own line-up of neutral site games coming up in addition to the 2018 game in Charlotte. The Mountaineers are scheduled to face BYU (2016) and Virginia Tech (2017) in FedEx Field. Lyons is also reportedly working on adding more neutral site games (and the big paydays that tend to come with them), suggesting a potential return to Atlanta in 2020. No opponent has been linked to the chatter just yet, but Lyons expects it to come against another power conference team. The Chick-fil-A Kickoff has always had a team from either the ACC or SEC, if not both.
West Virginia and Florida State were previously scheduled to do a home-and-home in 2012 and 2013, but that series was scrapped as West Virginia moved into the Big 12. Perhaps this series is toast.
One of the main reasons for optimism in Notre Dame falls on the strength of its defense returning 10 starters from last season (and the return of KeiVarae Russell at cornerback). Unfortunately for the Irish, one key member of the defensive line could be dealing with a severe knee injury. Defensive tackle Jarron Jones reportedly has suffered a serious knee injury in practice this week.
Keith Arnold of Inside the Irish notes reports are suggesting Jones has a torn ACL, although that official status of the reported injury has not been confirmed by Notre Dame or head coach Brian Kelly just yet. Kelly is expected to meet with media covering Notre Dame’s practice later today, at which time it is expected we will have some form of update on Jones and his status moving forward.
Jones saw his 2014 season end early due to a foot injury. He was expected to be back in the starting defensive line this season as the Irish return a defense stacked in experience. Losing Jones would hurt the Irish up front, but considering the other players slated to return this fall it would seem Notre Dame’s defense will still be a strength of the team even without the talented Jones. Jones was second on the team last season with 7.5 tackles for a loss.
When Illinois opens what could be a critical season for head coach Tim Beckman, they will do so without one of their top players on the defensive line. Senior defensive end Jihad Ward will sit out the beginning of the season due to a knee injury.
Whether or not Stanford has one of its top passing-game threats when it opens the 2015 season on the road against Northwestern remains to be seen.
Saturday, David Shaw announced thatMichael Rector has been suspended from his football program for what was only described as “disciplinary reasons.” The Cardinal head coach gave no timetable for the wide receiver’s return, which is the textbook definition of an indefinite suspension.
Rector, a senior, has played in 27 games the past two seasons, starting three of those contests. Last season, he was fourth on the team with 24 receptions for 324 yards.
Entering summer camp as a likely starter at the receiver position, Rector stands as the Cardinal’s second-leading returning pass-catcher among returning receivers.
