Herd decides its best to part ways with WR Angelo Jean-Louis | CollegeFootballTalk
Shortly after adding a controversial transfer, Marshall has decided to distance itself, permanently, from a former transfer who became one of its most talented players on the offensive side of the ball.

In a press release, the Herd announced that “head coach Doc Holliday… has determined it best that the program and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Angelo Jean-Louis part ways.” The release further stated that “[t]he program wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

The parting of ways is the latest speed bump in Jean-Louis’ checkered college football career.

BYUs Colby Jorgensen undergoes emergency surgery for fractured neck | CollegeFootballTalk
There’s rather scary injury news coming out of BYU involving one member of the Cougars football program.

The brother of sophomore Colby Jorgensen told theProvo Daily Herald in a phone interview that the linebacker was undergoing emergency surgery Tuesday night after being injured during practice earlier in the day. According to Austen Jorgensen, his brother sustained a fractured neck and a slipped disc in the practice incident, and was “pretty lucky he didn’t end up paralyzed.”

The injury Jorgensen sustained came in the midst of a very intense practice, as Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune detailed on his Twitter feed throughout the day.

Duke RB Jela Duncan sidelined indefinitely with pec injury | CollegeFootballTalk
An academic issue cost Jela Duncan the entire 2014 season. Now, an injury issue could affect his chances of seeing the field entering the 2015 season.

Duke revealed in a press release Tuesday that Duncan will be sidelined indefinitely because of what’s been diagnosed as a partially torn right pectoral muscle. The running back sustained the injury during Monday’s practice, and it’s apparently an issue that’s bothered him in the past.

“Jela’s injury is obviously disappointing because we know how hard he’s worked to get back into the thick of things following the two shoulder surgeries,” head coach David Cutcliffe stated.

It was announced in December of 2013 that Duncan was suspended for not only the Chick-fil-A bowl matchup with Texas A&M, but for the entire following season as well because of a violation of university academic policy. He was officially reinstated in January of this year.

Terps lose starting LB Abner Logan to torn ACL | CollegeFootballTalk
After losing all four starting linebackers following the 2014 season, Maryland was looking at Abner Logan as a very likely replacement at one of the spots. Unfortunately, a significant injury has nixed that notion.

Head coach Randy Edsall announced Wednesday via Twitter that Logan sustained a torn ACL during a recent summer camp practice session that was non-contact in nature as the Terps have yet to don pads. As a result of the injury, Logan will miss the entire 2015 season.

Chronic foot issues force Northwesterns Sean McEvilly to retire | CollegeFootballTalk
Granted a sixth season of eligibility last October, Sean McEvilly won’t be able to use it because of the very issues that have him the extra year in the first place.

Northwestern has announced Wednesday that McEvilly has been forced to retire from the game of football and won’t be playing for the Wildcats in 2015. The specified reason for the decision to step away from the game is chronic orthopedic issues.

Ex-Wolverine Dennis Norfleet officially lands at Tuskegee | CollegeFootballTalk
Exactly one week after Dennis Norfleet‘s name was omitted from Michigan’s roster, it has reappeared at a football program much further south. And much lower on the college football rung, for that matter.

As had been rumored for the past couple of weeks, Norfleet will continue his collegiate playing career at Tuskegee University in Alabama, as reflected by his spot on the team’s online roster and his bio on the team’s official website. Norfleet isenrolled in classes at the school and is already taking part in team meetings.

Because the Golden Tigers play at the Div. II level for football, Norfleet will be eligible to play immediately in 2015.

Fresno State set to debut its own blimp, Bulldog1 | CollegeFootballTalk
Billed as “a one-of-a-kind aerial marketing and branding campaign,” Fresno State on Thursday announced that campaign’s most significant component will be an FSU-branded blimp with the moniker “Bulldog1.” Half a football field long, the blimp, leased from a Fresno air media company for the next five years using private funds, will fly over all Bulldog home games.

The school also noted there is “the possibility of flying at certain road games” as well, which will certainly go over well with their opponents and possibly lead to an expanded drone program at rival institutions.

“We were looking for a unique visual splash to kick off the 2015 athletic season,” Fresno State senior associate athletic director Paul Ladwig said in a statement. “The blimp Bulldog1 will make that splash. By partnering with the best aerial marketing firm, we are able to use this iconic platform to engage our Bulldog community. …

“You’re always looking to do something that nobody else has done. Having the only collegiate blimp in the country to brand and market your programs is a tremendous tool.”

Bulldog1’s maiden voyage will take place Aug. 17. Tethered in place, it will make its Fresno-themed debut Aug. 13 at a scrimmage open to the public.

UCF-USF game moved to Turkey Day night | CollegeFootballTalk
Following up on speculation that’s been growing the past couple of days, the American Athletic Conference confirmed Thursday that this year’s USF-UCF has been moved to Thanksgiving Day night. The game, to be played in Orlando, had originally been scheduled for the following day.

It will be televised by ESPN.

“We are excited to have the USF at UCF game on Thanksgiving evening to kick off Rivalry Week,” said AAC commissioner Mike Aresco in a statement. “It is fitting that this outstanding rivalry game will be played in prime time on Thanksgiving and available to a national ESPN television audience.”

Speaking of ESPN, it was the WWL’s idea to move the game up a day to the holiday, and it appears all were onboard with the increased exposure.

“ESPN called regarding a possible change from an early Friday game to a Thursday night game on national TV. All parties concerned agreed to the change,” UCF head coach/interim athletic director George O’Leary said. “I think it’s great for both teams who are playing as well as the American Athletic Conference for this game to be featured on a huge stage like this.”
