This Offseason Has Sucked: 2016 Edition

Word on the street is that the Big 12 has a big recruiting issue on its hands:

- No Top 10 Classes
- Baylor at 11
- TCU at 16
- Oklahoma at 23
- Texas at 42

Plus there are predictions on signing day that it may get worse as teams move up. All of the last 10 national champions had top 5 classes within 2 years of winning. If you don't have the horses its hard to win the race.

Others have already basically reached their ceiling; Texas has half their class announcing on NSD. Even if they were all 3stars, they would go up. And they are not 3stars.

But the point is well taken: Big12 as a whole has dropped as Texas dropped. Baylor and Tcu have risen, but the conference as a whole will only get stronger when Texas, and OU, are ruling the roost again.

In 2013 Texas had 13 recruits, and the class was all tidied up by August.

In 2016 Texas is in on 14 recruits on NSD.

I would be worried Charlie Strong is a Tuberville type recruiter where he has a "system" and thinks he can take great kids and coach them up. It works to a degree but you have to land a 5 star here and there also.

I'm reading everyone is pillaging the state of Texas where Alabama, LSU and even Ole Miss are cherry picking blue chips when that didn't happen in the past.

Texas just got one recruit, Espins300 RB Kyle Porter from Katy, and 247 rankings just moved up to 25.

That's just with one player. Should get 7-10 players tomorrow.

those of us who follow Texas knew this was coming, had to listen to all the national talk about being ranked #30-40...Tried to explain that Strong waits on players, wants to evaluate senior year.

To become a serious national threat they will need a QB, dominate OL and a deep DL. They still have some ways to go but are on the right track.
