RB Chase Abbington decides to leave Mizzou team, give up football

The latest collegiate divorce has taken place at Missouri, with running backChase Abbington reported to have left the Tigers football team earlier in the week. No reason was given for the back’s abrupt departure at that time, although first-year head coach Barry Odom not only confirmed Tuesday that Abbington had left the team, but that the back had left the sport entirely.

After adding ex-A&M OC, Sonny Dykes brings ex-Aggie lineman to Cal as well

Jeremiah Stuckey, the school has announced, has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Cal football program after deciding to transfer from A&M earlier this year. Because Stuckey is coming in as a graduate transfer, he’ll be eligible to compete immediately in 2016, his final year of eligibility.

Second 2016 Auburn signee diagnosed with cancer

One member of Auburn’s 2016 recruiting class, Tashawn Manning, has already been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Unbelievably, a second member of that class is waging a similar battle.

Tuesday, head coach Gus Malzahnconfirmed that Brodarious Hamm has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In an interview with247Sports.com, the 2016 signee said he initially went to see a doctor a couple of weeks ago for what he described as a knot behind one of his ears; a biopsy subsequently confirmed that the knot was cancer.

After arrest, UGA’s Jonathan Ledbetter to serve one-game suspension

Over the weekend, UGA defensive linemanJonathan Ledbetter (pictured, No. 13) wasarrested and charged with presenting a fake ID and underage possession/furnishing of alcohol. It was thought that Ledbetter would be facing penalties from the football program because of the incident, and that officially came to fruition Tuesday as the school confirmed that, “n accordance with UGA Athletic Association policy, Ledbetter will sustain a one-game suspension. ”

Syracuse the landing spot for ex-Maryland WR Amba Etta-Tawo

From a former ACC school to a current one, Amba Etta-Tawo will continue and presumably end his college football playing career in that conference.

Speaking to Scout.com, Etta-Tawo confirmed that he has decided to transfer into the Syracuse football program. Earlier this month, Etta-Tawo announced on Twitter that he had decided to leave Maryland and transfer elsewhere.

Starting safety Justin Strong leaves Beavers for the FCS

Here’s something you don’t see very often, a starter leaving a Power Five program (presumably) of his own volition for a lower rung on the college football ladder.

Yet that’s exactly where Oregon State finds itself this week, with Montana of the FCS announcing Tuesday that it has added now-former Beavers defensive back Justin Strong to its roster. Because Montana plays at the FCS level, Strong will be eligible to play right away in 2016.

Ex- Michigan WR Da’Mario Jones lands at Bowling Green

The erstwhile Michigan wide receiverconfirmed via social media earlier in the week that he will finish his collegiate playing career at Bowling Green. It was confirmed very late last month that Jones was no longer a part of the Wolverines program and would be pursuing a transfer.

Kentucky signee stabbed six times in weekend incident

By way of FOX8 News in Cleveland, OH,Jordan Bonner was stabbed multiple times following an incident Saturday at a home in the suburb of Euclid. Bonner claims that he was stabbed six times in the chest, abdomen and back by an individual,Aristotle Lewis, who was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

247Sports.com among others is reporting that Savannah State’s Sean Fogarty is set to transfer to Georgia at the end of his current semester. The 6-4, 300-pound lineman will join the Bulldogs as a walk-on.

Marques Gayot ‘officially transferring from’ Miami

Back in February, Miami announced thatMarques Gayot was leaving the Hurricanes football program, althoughthere was some question as to whether he would actually be leaving the university. A month later, the linebacker confirmed as much.

“Officially [transferring] from UM,” Gayot wrote on his Facebook page, adding, “I am opening back up my recruiting!”

Darin Smalls becomes sixth Gamecock to depart since Will Muschamp’s hiring

According to multiple media outletscovering the team, Darin Smalls has left the Gamecocks football team and will transfer elsewhere. While the school has yet to confirm the defensive back’s departure, Smalls is no longer listed on the team’s online roster.

No reason was given for Smalls’ decision.
