you seriously are going to leave out HR's, RBI's, Run's...etc.......not sure where you get HUGE advantage in offense.

it was said Beltre was only good after 2010...I think the point is made...extremely well that it wasn't even remotely correct.
I agree. Beltre had an amazing 2004 season and he had some good seasons in Seattle. But I'm not sure how you can say he was better than Rolen was.

It's too bad Beltre played most of his career in Seattle/LA. Both ballparks hurt his numbers.

Fair Enough...Rolen was a stud...and haven't even said otherwise...but to say Beltre's 1st great season was 2010 was very misleading and my point to begin with...as long as his 2004...very dominate year, clearly above everyone that season isn't ignored.

Why do you continue to say this? It was said he didn't have great seasons, (plural) until 2010, as in back to back great seasonS. These threads aren't about who was the best player for one season, which has been stated numerous times.

Beltre's 1st great season in 2010???? you have to be joking, is this a candid camera type post that gets people riled up....

If you don't think 2004 Beltre was a great season, then please remove your Miggy argument...completely...because he DID put up Miggy number in 2004.

I meant first great season of the current run of great seasons he's on. Before 2010, it was an anomalous 2004 season and a bunch of solid to bad seasons.

unless I read the last sentence incorrect?

Rolen... 2002 31hr .265....2005...5 hr and .235....guess I have different criteria...

Rolen lost the belt in 2005 because of his poor season and A-Rod's great season. Or did you not notice that A-Rod took the belt in 2005?

"2010 Beltre had the first of his great seasons." thats why, because I can read...the 1st of his great seasons was 2004....the 1st season of his RUN of consecutive great seasons was 2010...

like I said fair enough...

also....I see plenty of players listed as "belt holders" with only 1 year listed...if 2004 was someone other than Beltre...then again...I will agree to disagree

RBIs, and runs are all sorta biased, or skewed, statistics. You could bat .400 with 50 home runs and finish the season with 50 runs and 50 RBIs. Runs and RBIs require help from your teammates, and not everyone gets the same support.

Right. That's not because of one great season. That's because that they had climbed the ranks and gained the belt, but only managed to hold it for one year. Beltre's 2004 was completely out of nowhere and there was already a firmly established star who also had a great season that year. Beltre didn't have enough of a track record, and then immediately went back to being an ordinary player.

Josh Donaldson 2013-present

I would have to disagree with this

2013 Miguel Cabrera was still a 3B. Josh was in his first year of starting and Beltre was starting his slow decline. By the criteria set by Smarther I would say that 3B still belonged to Miggy.

2014 With Miggy moving back to 1B. I would say that at the start of the year the position belonged to Beltre, but by the end of the year Donaldson was either on the verge or passed him.

2015 Donaldson had had two great years in Oakland and continued his success in Toronto, so I don't think there is any way you argue against him.

With all due respect to George Brett, I don't think Schmidt slipped enough in 1979 for Brett to take the title from him. Then in 1980, as great as Brett was in his injury shortened season Schmidt also won the MVP in his league, then in the World Series where they faced each other and both did great, Schmidt won the MVP.
