Thinking about getting a Tacoma...

To add, I will probably be buying used. I just can't bring myself to buy a new vehicle when I can get a massive discount for one with 30k miles on it.

Depending on how used you want to go you really should probably buy new right now. Used vehicles are ridiculous right now price wise. As someone in the business I routinely sell new trucks for less than what someone could buy a used one for and even if the price point is within a couple thousand dollars you are better off purchasing the new so you can get the full factory warranty. Most new trucks right now have a 3500-5000 dollar rebate depending on whether you finance or not and you should also be able to get an additional 3500-4000 off the MSRP based on markup. So in essence a new ext cab, 4WD truck that MSRP's for 34-36K should be able to be purchased for 25-26K. Id wager to guess that you wont find a used truck on the amrket with under 30K miles that anyone is asking less than 27-28 for. So even if you could talk them down on a used one to 23-24 you are still WAYYYYY better to buy new.

Also Ford makes by far the best truck. I have been in all of them and the only one thats really close is the Tundra but you will also spend 4-6K more just because it says Toyota on it and then more on parts, maintenance and upkeep ( despite what people say, ALL vehicles require maintenance and foreign vehicles cost more to maintain). Overall cost of ownership on a Tundra would be 6-8K more over the life of the vehicle. All the domestics have improved though and Dodge ahs come along way but still not sold on their reliability

I know the V6 was pretty common in F150's at least into the early 2000's not sure if they put them in many neweer trucks or not. The new 6 cylinder is supposed to be a beast but i've not driven one.

*btw it would be the 4.9 litre or 300 v6.

Ford is currently producing a V6 but its not the same as the early 2000'2 V^. The new V6 is a direct injected Ecoboost V6 that actually delivers more horsepower and torque than its 5.0 V8 counterpart. The ecoboost is rated for 25 MPG on the highway and we have had some really excellent feedback on the trucks. They actually cost 750 more than the V8 and currently have 1000 less in rebates though so the V6 will end up costing you base 1750 more.

My Lincoln MKT has that same engine - the V6 with ecoboost. The MKT is a big car and the V6 is plenty adequate and really does get 27 mpg at just over 70mph. Even at 90mph, my preferred speed, it gets around 22mph...but that car is more aerodynamic than the truck by far.

IMO it doesn't feel like a turbo either with that whiplash effect. It's a nice engine.

i think the new hemi's get better highway mpg. Get a ram 1500 express, No options except dual exhaust and hemi, out the door low 20k's. Mans truck, extra ball hair

Prob all within 1-2 mpg with the same features. (i.e. 4x4, auto v/s maual, etc)

Right, but like I said before I want four wheel drive and an extended cab. Plus I've got so much ball hair already I use it as stuffing to mount grizzly bears.

Get a tacoma extended cab v6 5spd 4x4 with no power options. You have a truck that will last you 300k+ and go offroad as well/cost 25k.

They'll all go 300k, we have a '98 F-150 with 260k.
And for 25k you should be able to take your pick of any of the Big 3 or Jap stuff.

Just for the record, I was joking about the Tundra. Driving a foreign truck around Michigan is an absurdly ridiculous idea. Plus while the quality gap may have been pretty bad in the 80's and early 90's, it's narrowed significantly. Like I said, I have an '01 Olds and I haven't had to do jack to it.
