It wasn't even the worst call of the 4th quarter (that would be isolating KJ Wright on Gronk for 3rd downs when the game was on the line). Stupid call where the Seahawks outsmarted themselves, but at least they tried something tricky. Some of their defensive decisions at the end were just plain stupid.

anyone just hear pete's explanation? makes no sense

It made complete sense logically, but it's just outsmarting himself. I would take Marshawn against a goal line defense without the numbers even if it's a disadvantage in terms of the numbers.

It has to be way up there, the beast walks into the EZ from there, no problem, was a heck of D effort by the pats, never gave up, but yeah thanks to whomever on the Seahawks devised that play. Very exciting game.

Pats had worst short yardage defense in the league. Inexcusable play call at the end. Had at least 2 if not 3 attempts to run it in with one timeout left. Wow.

Nice that you know this, but Carroll, Bevell, and Wilson say it was the play which was called. What a pathetic troll move.

I thought he was saying they were passing because they only had 1 timeout after they just burnt 30 seconds on 1st down. bad

I don't understand. He was supposed to catch the ball and go down in bounds? Because an incomplete stops the clock. An INT loses the game. So Bevell saying that the pass play was called to burn clock makes no sense when running the damn ball would have run clock off with less chance of a fumble... then he says that just because you run doesn't mean he would have scored... if you don't want to score on 2nd down and you say that he wouldn't necessarily have scored running, wouldn't you then run the ball to the inch-line, run clock out, and call timeout or run the next play? He is saying that just because you ran the ball doesn't mean what you didn't want to do would happen - that goes exactly opposite of what you are saying - you are saying that running the ball might have led to what you wanted to do (not score) so you didn't run the ball?

It makes ZERO sense.

I might be the only one who doesn't see it as the worst call.

If the WR caught it, was incomplete, Wilson ran it in or pass for TD, Wilson got sacked, basically anything but interception, it wouldn't have been a big deal. More downs, time outs, time on clock. Nobody would care.

If it was 4th down, then it would be different.

It makes ZERO sense.

I think Bevell knows exactly how bad it really was- and he is reaching at anything to justify it at this point. What was the idea? Have Wilson scamper around and hope something is open? Really inconsequential what the view of the WR is or wasn't, it's an awful, awful playcall with absolutely no justification. Sure, if it was a TD, there would be a no harm no foul attitude; but make no mistake, it's a shady playcall with the crappy WR's for Seattle- and it just lost them a SB in all likelihood.

Pete Carroll can take the blame on himself all he likes- Bevell made that call; and it's an unforgiveable mistake in a SB.

That wasn't a "set up the run" sort of pass. He's just blowing smoke.

That was on Bevell, not Carroll. Worst call I've ever seen given the circumstances and personnel.

I'm fucking pissed.
