137 Thoughts...

1) The comics are getting boring. I still like them, but it just doesn't have the same tension it did in the first 50 or so issues.

2) Congrats Carl! You lost your boyhood to a necrophiliac. Good for you.

3) We see Carson for the first time since the jump, and it is in a throw away scene just to close the name-confusion between him and Dr Carson. I hope this means we will see Salvation in some way soon. Dwight is a cool character, and I want to see him back in the books.

4) Speaking of Salvation, What about the Kingdom? I am not a huge fan of Ezekial, but I would at least like to know what's up with him and Michone.

5) I like that they are bringing Gregory back into the story in a major way, and actually showing that he was not a complete sleaze with no skills. He had to have SOME skills to be able to build and lead Hilltop in the first few years after the ZA.

6) I have a feeling that Sophia will go all Glenn Close on Carl when she realizes that Lydia stole her obsession. Sophia has always had a screw or two loose.

I saw a theory about the "Wolves" this week, and I think it fits quite well.

In the comics, after the group got to ASZ, there was a small group that attacked the settlement. At this point, Rick had been named constable of ASZ so he was essentially in charge of internal and external security. When the leader approached the gate, he spoke to Rick and said "Little pig, little pig, let me in".

In the comics, this was a very forgettable group. In fact, I had completely forgotten about them. But they can be used to keep the action up while they establish all the politics within ASZ and as a bridge to Negan.

This ep can't really be discussed without spoilers, so I will do my initial thoughts here instead...

1) Maggie had completely abandoned God and religion at the beginning of the ep, but with the music box turning on when Aaron walked up, I think this will be the turning point for her getting back to God.

2) We met Aaron. Will we meet Eric next week?

3) I am not sure allowing the walkers to trail them was a smart move. If they happened upon a herd, they would be completely pinned with no escape route. Granted, they had no energy, but that was a big gamble.

4) Was that the first scene with just Maggie and Daryl? I do not remember them ever having a one-on-one scene before.

5) Not a lot to comment on this week. Important episode, but ultimately very forgettable.

Overall a bit of a boring episode but needed for the direction of the show going into the end of the season. I wonder what happened to the Walkers fighting to get into the barn that made them just get ripped away. Tornado? What's with the clean suburban camping guy at the end who knew Rick's name? One more observation, just by watching the first episodes ,is that how these characters have changed in looks (the ones alive anyway) as to how they look now. No clean cut look at all. How does Camper Guy sport that look? I guess we will find out.

Probably what took the zombies away in the barn scene was straightline windshappen alot during thunderstorms. The clean cut guy is Aaron who is a recruiter for the ASZ where the group will end up. He's been following the group for a short bit so that's how he got Ricks name. He may have been the one to put all that water in the middle of the road.

Issue 144...

Holy shit!

Comparable to issue 100. Not the single impact death that was 100, but in sheer numbers of secondary characters, it was almost as shattering.

Olivia
Rosita
Ezekiel
Luke
Carson
Tammy

Luke was little more than a glorified extra, but all the others had AT LEAST a major role in a major story arc. Rosita and Ezekiel could both be considered top-second tier characters (assuming top tier would be Rick, Carl, Andrea, Michone, Paul, Maggie, Eugene??, Negan??)

152 was released yesterday. I have not had an opportunity to read it yet, though. Hopefully tonight.

I re-read 96 last night though. This past episode (intro of the Hilltop) was almost word-for-word, cell-for-cell from the comic. The "What?" Scene was better delivered in the comics, though. Way to rushed on the show.

Holy shit!

I didn't see that one coming. So Negan is Rick's dog now? He goes out hunting and is bringing prizes back to his master?

And what's with Negans speeches the whole issue? He is suddenly the Dahli Lama?

Still think it's all a ploy and that he has some type of ulterior motive

That is a strong possibility, but I think we are about to learn that Negan has always been a good guy.

When Rick and Negan had their final confrontation at the end if the war, Negan SAID that he liked Ricks idea and was willing to play along because it could actually work (than Rick took him down and "won" the war).

Negan may be a real SOB, but everything he has done was done to help his people. He never allowed r*pe or other crimes among the Saviors, so his reaction this issue is not totally out of left field. His "first impression" was intended to get everyone in line. In the ZA-world, that kind of show of force could really save a lot of lives in the long run.

Biggest death since Glenn? Bigger?

Or will they start to introduce some kind of cure and save her?

So the Whisperers are done now? How anticlimactic.

Alpha is killed just to show that Negan is 100% team Rick.

Beta is killed almost as an afterthought just to close out the arc.

Both characters were totally under-utilized. Kinda like Gabriel in the books.

Now the new group is supposed to be another game changer. I think they are going to be called the New World Order, or something similar. Meh.

Is it possible the comics have jumped the shark just like the show?

With Coral basically killed off the show now, how do they stay consistent with comics moving forward? Carl is a pretty major part of just about every storyline moving forward. Will they eliminate the whole Sophia/Enid r*pe arc? Then how will the introduce the personal tension with the Whisperers? How will they finally kill Gregory?

Will they just introduce a new character to fill his spot? Siddiq is pretty bland in the books. Maybe they can put some of it on him? Maybe Heath has fallen in love with Alphas daughter?

And what do you think of how they handled Dwight? In the show, he is just all of the sudden having conversations with Darryl? Having him show up as a surprise during a meeting of the minds in the Kingdom was a MUCH better way of hinting at his face turn. How difficult would it have been to play it that way on the show?

Gimple is a moron.

So 180 dropped today.

:sigh:

The good guys (Rick and co) are the hippie commies who share everything and look at everyone for who they are. The bad guys (the Commonwealth) are typical capitalist pigs looking to exploit the workers.

I am not sure how much longer I can stick with this drivel.

What happened today? That has been the basic story line.

Just read 186.

Wow. Didn’t see that coming.

So how will they work any of this into the show? Supposedly they already have a full working arrangement with the Commonwealth on the show, but Eugene and Gabriel are still working the radio. Will the Commonwealth that exists in the show be a different entity, and the group they meet on the radio will be the tv equivalent to the comics Commonwealth?

If they still, somehow, go with this telling of the Commonwealth, it will still have to be completely alien. Elodie doesn’t exist in the show, so that pull for Michone will need to be rewritten (or redirected to another character). Maybe Michone takes the Rick role? Maybe Ezekiel? I can’t see Mercer getting behind Ezekiel as the new supreme leader. Carol could do it, but she is ultimately too much of a loner to take on that kind of role. Aaron isn’t a leader. Tara is a fucking joke. Daryl will clearly take the Dwight position, and I can see Redus wanting to leave the show in a couple years anyway.

190

That was a great issue. Only 10 more before 200. Will Rick be killed, or elected President? It is kinda looking like he will be president. They gotta do SOMETHING big to try to compete with the lineup, though, don’t they?
