Just read 131...

I guess they HAD to slow things down a bit to establish the new world, but the book is starting to get super boring. I am not sure what hey can do to legitimately infuse it with excitement again, though. Maybe the book has reached the finish line, and it is time to move on to another project?

SOOO many direct comic references in thus episode.

Gabriel is introduced.

Bob = Dale? I think he got bit while at the food bank, and that was why he was outside crying.

Abraham calls the group "Survivors".

Termites officially become the Hunters.

Michone sword-less?? Blasphemy!

For Yoga...

In the books, he freaked out as the world was going to shit and locked himself in the church, letting all the people outside get eaten by Z's. He listened to them all get eaten.

I knew it was something along those lines...hence the "you'll burn for this" someone wrote on the outside wall..

But I also think he and gareth know each other and have a history.

If they follow the books, his interaction with Gareth/Chris will really form his relationship with the group. If they go that direction, I hope they stick with it. In the books, they pretty much abandoned the character after the Hunters, with him just popping up here and there. I think they missed some good opportunities with Gabriel in the books.

Hard to say.

The TV show is very close to comics, in a general manner. All the major points are hit.

However, specifically, they very quite a bit.

For example...

Bob was a white, drunk bum who lived outside the Gov's apartment in Woodbury. His only appearance was after Michone FUCKED Gov up something fearce.

At the beginning of the siege on the Prison, the Gov chopped off Ty's head, not Hershells. Laurie and Judith both died in the siege.

Dale was killed by the Hunters (it looks like Bob is taking his spot here) and Andrea is still alive (and married to Rick). Also, Andrea and her sister both were sleeping with Dale at the start. Carol was a mid-twenties single mother who wanted to become Ricks second wife (yea, she was psycho).

The "girls" story line was actually really young twin boys who were in the group since Atlanta.

Basically, if you squint and watch the show from a distance, it follows the comics almost precisely. It is the details that get fudged enough to make the show really interesting to those who have read the comics.

Carol also ended up hooking up with Tyrese, then she killed herself a bit later, didn't she?

Yea. That pissed off Michone, IIRC.

Comic Carol was a waste. TV Carol is probably my favorite character.

Episode 1 of this season certainly boosted her into 'badass' status for me.

don't forget to mention that it was Carl who took care of the bad boy in the comics. I really think that should have happened in the show. Kept the girls around to reunite with everyone and then she can go all psycho and then Carl could do it. That way, that dynamic is still there. now it's just Carol and it seemed like an easy decision at the time and not as controversial as it was in the comics. (no one there to fight for the girl to not get killed where as there was people fighting for the bad boy in the comics).

I think they tried to have that moment for Carl during 3.16, in the first prison siege. It just wasn't carried out all that well.

There are some things that are hard to bring over from the comics, such as the extent to which Michone fucked with Governor or the degree of evil that the 4 guys they found in the prison had. I was shocked how close they kept the Mika story to the comics, but having another "kid" dole out the justice, I think, is a further than the show is willing to go right now.

So Noah is supposed to join the group for the foreseeable future.

He mentioned when chatting with Beth that he is from Virginia, and his home had walls. It was not clear that that meant post ZA, but I think it sounds too much like ASZ to ignore. I am guessing that he will end up being Douglas' son.

Or better yet, Gregory's son. Maybe he left the Hilltop because he was sick of how spineless his dad was, and came to Atlanta to find his uncle (Morgan? I hope not). He was hoping his uncle could help with the Saviors situation.

Maybe he is Ezekials son. Although the Kingdom doesn't have walls, does it?

Or, he was with the Saviors? He was ironing a lot while in the hospital. Maybe he is Negan? Ok, maybe not...

I just watched the ep again, and was reminded that Noahs father was killed when he was "saved" by the cops. Maybe his dad was the guy that Douglas exiled out of Alexandria...

A few extra thoughts about the finale and TTD...

1) Lamson goes down with the Martinez treatment. I thought that scene from the comics was too good not to use.

2) Kirkman went Spoiler-crazy on TTD tonight. He tried not to say much, but he was oozing the info.

3) Aaron will be on the show soon. Kirkman said that an openly gay prominent character from the comics will be showing up in the second half. Aaron and Eric are the only OPENLY gay major characters. Paul seems to be on the QT. Besides, I don't think they intro Paul this season.

4) Kirkman said that the show will be DRAMATICALLY changing coming up. That means ASZ. I am worried how the DC story will work pre-Saviors. How will fans accept a political battle between Rick/Douglas/Gregory? How will the show handle dealing with essentially two "Good-Guy" settlements? And the separation of the group into these two settlements? I fear change in a show that is as solid as this, but change is necessary...
