My point was we didn't have a back-up 1B and with MM's injury history Morales made too much sense to me. It was foolish to think MM was going to make it through the rest of the year without getting hurt.

I have wanted him gone since last year but root for him to succeed and like him as a person. But do not want him as our 1b or dh. And will not give him his annual alibi that he did mediocre because of an injury. And I am sorry that this injury has happened to him. Would not wish that on anyone.

We could've gotten him for the amount we saved on Fielder and Harrison. Our budget would have been right back where it was. The FO sent the same message to the team that you and Ranger Dude are saying, and it's not a good one.

This is the most unbelievable season... And now I hear that Adduci re injured his finger?? We have no first basemen...

How strange was all this...Moreland suddenly decides he must have ankle surgery the day after Morales signs elsewhere...maybe the plan was to sign Morales, get Adduci back, and Moreland announce he's having surgery, so we're covered at 1b...but Morales signs with the Twins, and our plans go out the window....

Sounds like maybe we should have offered more for Morales knowing this???

MM was the back up. We can only build so much depth. Hell, Adducci was MM backup.

MM was no longer the back-up. We had a guy available that could have built depth. That's my point. We didn't have one natural 1B to back him up. Yes, they were trying to give Adduci a crash course, but now he's hurt. So it's going to have to be Murphy, Adduci, and Rosales. Out of those 3 give me Adduci.

How did we save money on Fielder or Harrison- their contracts are guaranteed?

Also, here is another way of looking at it. We have given up the 4thmost runs in the MLB, 293. That means we are giving up 4.73 runs per game on average. Now, we have scored 263 runs which means that on average we score 4.24 runs per game. So basically Morales would have to make up for a full half a run per game to be effective. The point is our offense isn't the problem. Teams that give up this many runs don't make playoffs runs- making any further investment at this point doesn't make sense and could jeopardize the future. Now if they can get pitching back up to par come the trade deadline, maybe you start to shop around but adding one bat won't solve our problems, especially when I main problem is pitching.
