Is scherzer the most over-rated pitcher in baseball right now?? Really he has only had 2 good seasons and he is already 30 years old...

Scherzer is there for the next 7 years. Strasburg will be leaving as a free agent(or sooner). No brainer.

So, your process is to give the nod to a pitcher who has the most years left on his contract as opposed to one that gives your team a better chance to win?

Who said Strasburg gives you a better chance to win?? Scherzer is more of an ace these days, no? I'd go with Scherzer #1 and Zimmerman #2 myself....

I think they are deferring to the man they just paid $200+M, yes. But he's also the better pitcher. I like the pseudo-controversy you are trying to generate here, though.

How is he the better pitcher?? He has only had 2 good seasons in his career... And only one great season... Strasburg is only 26(4 years younger) and has had more good seasons, and has been better than Scherzer all seasons except for scherzer's CY year...

Scherzer(AKA: "the guy who doesn't give his team a good chance to win") is 39-8 the last 2 years with an ERA right around 3.00. He won the Cy Young in 2013 and finished 5th in 2014(in the league with the DH). His ERA + last year was 127 and it was 144 in 2013. I don't know where you are getting the "only 2 good seasons" thing here, but Scherzer is pretty-much the best in the biz right now.

Strasburg finished 9th in Cy Young voting last year and has never received votes other than that. His ERA+ last year was 119 and it was 126 in 2013. He would be the #1 for many teams....but not the Nats. It helps that Strasburg is younger, but he still needs to improve his game to reach Scherzer's current level(and I think he can).

Me? I am not the one that brought up the length of his contract. Further, it is entirely your opinion that he is the better pitcher, well you and Matt Williams.

To defer to a "bigger" contract is asinine, wouldn't you agree?

so you are basing it on adjusted statistics, that favor a pitcher over another??

Scherzer was pretty bad before his CY, and the season after it was very good, but in the year of the pitcher, his ERA was over 3!!! He is overly hyped!!!

In Strasburg's 3 seasons of 28 or more games pitched, Strasburg did better than Scherzer in 2 of those seasons...

No. They signed him to be the ace of the staff and are slotting him accordingly. And right now, he IS the better pitcher(and I like Strasburg a lot). Look at the numbers and tell me how you see otherwise.

I'm using adjusted statistics to compare a guy who faces the DH to a guy who doesn't. Scherzer was "pretty bad"?? In his 5 years in Detroit he was 82-35 with a 3.52. Nobody has been better over the last 2 years, either. It's Strasburg who is massively overhyped to this point, actually.

Just for argument sake, if Scherzer did not have his 2013 season, do you think he would be considered a top 20 pitcher??

Agree with this. Stras is a 3 or 4 on this team.
