apparently $58mill over 10 yrs.

so does J Bernier ask to get moved now?
edit - oh, never mind. one more goalie on the market.

@andystrickland
#LAKINGS told Bernier they would look to move him once a contract with Quick was finalized

Kings, Quick agree in principle on 10-year deal - Los Angeles Kings - Press Releases

Kings, Quick agree in principle on 10-year deal
The Stanley Cup Champion, Conn Smythe Winner, Vezina Trophy Finalist, NHL All-Star and Kings MVP will call LA home through the 2022-23 season

ACK!

Holy shit that's a stupid move. I mean, I like the guy and all, but giving ANY goalie a 10 year deal is insane. Especially one who came out of nowhere and reached the pinnacle. Seriously, who really believes he is the next Patrick Roy? Patrick Roy wasn't even Patrick Roy until like 7 years later.

There are a whole lot of Jim Carey / Byron Dafoe / Roman Cecmanek / Steve Mason / MAF stories out there. Fewer Marty Brodeur / Patty Roy ones.

Which one of those do you think is more likely to re-occur?

But the good news is, any GM dumb enough to sign that contract is dumb enough to deal Bernier to Columbus for picks.

I'm waiting for all these GM and owners who are signing these players to big money contracts to start whining and moaning about "getting costs under control" as the CBA talks drag on through the summer.

Geez the Isles are almost 7 million under the floor as we head towards July 1st. Wang must be pissed. I'm sure he was hoping the Visnovsky trade would put the team at the floor. Now he has to doctor the books again.

Yes, but it's the perfect time for this type of stuff/contract to take place. They just won their cup, the fans are happy, the entire organization is happy, etc.

I don't know what it's like for my team to win a Stanley Cup (insert being-a-Sharks-fan joke here), but I know that after my Giants won the World Series, I couldn't care less if they sucked the following year... or currently.. or in 4-5 years...

I'm guessing it's the same for hockey teams/fans? /shrug

Long term deals with goalies always work out well.

I like it. Smart move by the Kings organization, 5.8mil cap hit @ 10 years? Good shit, still gives the Kings some room to play this free agency period. Everybody sans Penner has been resigned so far, Kings are the anti-Chicago this summer. Cap space is just under 12 mil. stoked!

The difference between Quick and some of these other goalies is that he has proved consistently worth a $5 million cap hit over the past four years. There is nothing in his career, like cold streaks, for example, to indicate that he will collapse. He's been steady from day one.

All he has to do over the duration of this contract is perform just above average to make it worthwhile.

I think that's a very good risk to take.

while I am happy about Quick signing the length does scare me (thats what she said). I worry that his style of play may lead to injuries and I worry that he can't play like that forever.
But what the heck Kings won the cup.

I highlighted and underlined the real reason I believe they gave him this deal... and I would give a 20 year deal if one player could help deliver that. there is NO need to justify why he got it. there is NO need to care why people think its a good or bad deal thats like Bruins fans justify Tim Thomas for quitting on his team. It doesnt Matter. Cup Winner. take it love it enjoy it. know that many teams fan bases may never ever have that in their life. you can say now that will never be an issue you ever have

Yes, because the problem with Bryzgalov this year was that his contract was too long, not that he had no defense in front of him or that he was inconsistent as hell. Definitely the contract length.

Seriously, we wouldn't have beat the Devils if he were a rental. The only problem I have with the Bryzgalov contract is that they gave it to Bryzgalov. Hopefully that changes this coming year.

Flames re-sign Cory Sarich for two years at $2-million a season. Had a solid year and that's a reasonable price.

I'm not sure that happens. The guy is a god in Jersey. There's no reason to screw that up.
