While probable NFL draft talent given his athletic ability and frame, it always seemed like he never lived up to his promise. Last year, he was mainly used as a pass rush specialist.

It's possible the Dawgs felt they had the depth there to handle his departure, and he can play immediately for PAC south school that will put him to use to keep his draft stock there. USC and UCLA would both prob be interested.

With Hindy and his departures, we'll have no prob with the NCAA scholarship max for 2014.

Shirley is a 5th year senior so I do not believe he has to sit out. There is no sit rule once you have your 4 year degree, even in conference right?

Man I know the feeling. Makes me at ease a little after all the Duck transfers.

I'd have to check (and I'm too lazy), but I don't think USC has any available scholarships. Also, defensive line is actually one position where we aren't too thin.

He'll still have to attend post graduate type classes during fall, but can transfer and play this season to any PAC school that has a scholarship spot available. But he will have to make his final decision and get the paperwork done within the month of July.

oh I'm sure he has made his decision and was already offered a spot. You don't quit and say you are going to play closer to home without knowing you have a spot to actually do so. One would think anyway.

Agreed. Given the the losses at DE and LB, UCLA would have to be extremely interested.

Sarks been his coach for his college career and Wilcox his coordinator for the past 2. If USC had a spot open, they would as well. Anything to help with depth at D.

USC is totally off their sanctions as of a couple weeks ago. Not sure how the scholarship thing will work this year compared to 2015 when the floodgates are completely open.

ASU could really use him, it's only a 5 hour drive to LA and we need someone to replace Carl Bradford. The guy penciled in right now is still taking last minute summer classes at a JC to become eligible.

We had a DB transfer a couple weeks ago so there's at least one scholarship available. Numbers won't get tight until next season with only 10 seniors on the team.

We're still limited to 75 scholarship athletes for this season. So, technically speaking, this is the last year of the sanctions. Next year, we can have 85 again.

The Josh Shirley situation is extremely odd. I think this is a pretty big loss for the Huskies, I really expected him to have a breakout year, he has a ton of natural talent and could have a future in the NFL.

Would be even weirder for him to go back to UCLA considering that they kicked him off the team before he came to Seattle.

Former Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan has been suspended for the first four games of the 2014 NFL season for a violation of the league's PED policy, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Former USC QB Max Wittek is in the process of applying to Hawaii for the 2014 school year and says there is a "good possibility" he will walk-on the football team, according to the Honolulu Star Advertiser.
As Wittek points out, nothing is official yet and he is still discussing his options with his family. Wittek would need to sit out the 2014 season since he did not graduate from USC last spring.

I'm surprised he didn't apply for an extra year at USC get his degree and then transfer with two years of eligibility left.

Whatever he does I wish him well. Norm Chow should really help in his development.

It was the first image macro I came across this morning when the kids got me up. Sorry Oly.
