4. Mike Riley, Oregon State
Record at Oregon State: 88-73 (13 years)
Career Record: 88-73 (13 years)
Oregon State’s Program Rank: No. 10 in the Pac-12, No. 54 nationally

Riley is in his second stint at Oregon State, and the Beavers have been one of the Pac-12’s most consistent programs under his watch. From 1971-98, Oregon State failed to earn a winning record. But since 2003, the Beavers have eight winning seasons out of the last 11 years. Riley has guided Oregon State to six years of at least eight wins during that span. The Beavers also have 15 bowl appearances in school history – eight of them are under Riley’s watch. So while Oregon State is still looking for a Pac-12 title under Riley, he has clearly elevated a program that struggled mightily prior to his arrival. And if you needed any additional data on Riley’s impact, take a look at recruiting rankings. The Beavers own the No. 10 roster in the Pac-12, yet rank sixth in the conference in conference wins over the last four years.

Tough to get out of the middle of the Pac, IF there's a guy to do it...Riley be 1 answer. Hope our AD is paying him well. No reason NOT to be able to beat Stanford, UWUB or Oregon either.:gaah:

Except Stanford and UW have coaches rated higher.

Now if only coaches ratings actually translated into wins we'd be in business.

I still think recruiting rankings are at least 50% based on how many magazines they can sell and 50% based on actual player evaluation.

As much as I want to like a list that has Chris Petersen at #2, I think that list was fucking terrible. I love to make fun of Oregon, but there is no way that Helfrich is the 2nd worst coach in the PAC-12.

The Husky fan in me says that only coach better than Petersen in the PAC-12 is Shaw, but the unbiased voice in my head says that Petersen is yet to do anything in a major conference. I love everything about Petersen, and the Petersen hire but I'm not sure you can declare him the 2nd best coach in the conference before he even coaches his first season in the PAC-12.

Also the fact that Athlon has the Arizona State and Arizona coaching jobs ranked that low really fails to take into consideration how insanely hot the girls are at those schools and how crazy the party scene is there. Seriously, if you're an 18 year old guy looking to enjoy yourself for 4 years while playing football I can't think of a better place than those two schools.

Wrong. I have always said that Kiffin's biggest problem is his idiot mouth.

Kiffin's biggest problem is being a terrible coach. The talent he pissed away on those USC rosters is a god damn shame. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, but I honestly believe that USC had top 5 talent on that roster from 2010-2012.

I don't know what their criteria is for their rankings, but you did read the stuff under the names right? They put helfrich 11th, but said with mariota coming back they should be in the hunt for the playoffs.

My guess is they realize how dangerous Oregon is, but are putting a lot more of it on the kids and systems helfrich inherited than what he himself has built. I wouldn't take it as an indictment on anything he has done yet, but rather a wait and see what happens after he puts his own stamp on the program.

Likewise, Petersen is listed 2nd, but with the depth problems in the secondary and a break in QB they don't expect UW to finish second in the conf. They are just giving him a lot of credit for past work elsewhere.

You all know I don't put much stock in any of the off season lists. They are simply a distraction in the off season while we wait for real football to return. Nothing more.

And if you believe that comment I have a great deal on water front property in Florida that I will sell you very, very cheap!

I think you messed up your joke.

It's supposed to be oceanfront property in the middle of the country where it doesn't exist, like Kansas. Florida has tons of waterfront property.

Well every other year anyway until the hurricanes knock them all down.

He did just fine in his first 2 seasons. He kept his mouth shut, coached his team and had the 2nd best overall record over his 1st two seasons in USC history.

I think USC being ranked #1 going into his 3rd season went to his head and things started falling apart in the pre-season when he decided that he had enough "juice" to ban a writer who was a total USC homer for asking about an injury was a good idea. The media turned on him, he kept doing and saying more stupid things which just created more negativity. Then he started using the sanctions as an excuse which no one bought.

I think Kiffin is a very good OC, recruiter and QB coach. However, he's shown himself to be a terrible head coach. He's just not a leader like that.

It's like Saban said when he hired him as his OC "The things that caused problems for him in the past are not things that he's going to be asked to do at Alabama".

Still here... Suppose to leave tonight :noidea: but I don't know if I want to get on the plane!
This place sucks you in and slows everything down, I've never just sat and watched a sunset every night like I did here....

Bad news for the Ducks.

Multiple sources have told CSNNW.com that Oregon junior wide receiver Bralon Addison tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while performing a non-contact drill during Wednesday's practice.

Such injuries can take up to nine months to recover from, which means Addison, the team's top returning receiver, will likely miss the entire 2014 season.

Addison was second on the team last year with 890 receiving yards, and he scored seven receiving touchdowns. He was set to become the team's top target after the departure of senior Josh Huff for the NFL.

Addison also led the team in punt return yards last season.

Colorado, Stanford, and Arizona with spring games on the Pac12 network today if anyone is interested.

Think I'll be outside working in the yard for most of the day.
