Lolz at all the posts everywhere about the WR recievers in the NFL combine...

What the hell else does B Cooks gotta do this year? He is better than Lee...does more than Watkins ever dreamed of...re-wrote the single season Pac receiving records...won the nations top award at his position. He played ONLY 2 years @ State and went out on top...PERFECT.

But hey...he is 5'8"...NFL loves those tall receivers who can jump on top of the DBs. IF I were a GM, his resume', simple put..."POPS" right out at you.

I said M Wheaton was better than Cooks last year and he was...Steelers will get to know him as soon as he gets to play full time.

Cooks upside potential is just scary good.. Great kid w/ a great attitude...what the hell else is there to say?

Cept I wish he was playin 2 more years @ State, but that would just be a waste...

Amirite?

He tested very, very, well at the combines, the sad part is that you mentioned, 5'8", I was hoping he would've gain a couple inches coming in. But this guy could be that "every down player, he can return kicks, line up in the slot, hell line him up out of the backfield and go out for a route, bottomline someone will draft him and he will be a "all skill set position" minus the QB end...

This is gonna be a good telling year for Shaw, I want to see how your Cards bounce back on defense with some very good players heading to the NFL...

My concern is mainly on the RB and free safety fronts for Stanford.

On offense for Stanford:
Hogan is back, and depending on which version of him shows up, the running and gunning guy with a great touch on the deep ball, or the one from Utah and USC games last year, that could be good or bad. The team is extremely deep at WR (Rector, Montgomery, Cajuste, Pratt, Owusu etc.) The Oline is stocked from the 2012 class and all of those guys have had time playing in the Jumbo sets. The TE position disappeared last year which hurt in close games, that said, Hooper, Toboada and a couple other guys have been getting good reviews from the coaches, and there is a chance that Shultz may not redshirt. The issue at RB is that most of guys in the stable are small and speedy (think Glynn Milburn in the early 90's), what the team lacks is a true power back this year. So expect to see some wider splits on the O-line and more off tackle stuff added to the play book. I hope Sanders and Seale are as good as advertised.

On Defense:
Parry is back at NG, and Kamatule and Shittu look to be stepping up at the D-tackle positions well. The ILB core is stocked with guys that saw playing time in last year (Palma, Hemschoot, Martinez), add to that the fact that Tarpley is back at the Ted backer position, and I feel good there despite losing Skov. The nickel spot opened up with the graduation of Amanam, but Hoffpauir seems to be ready to take that role, and possibly at strong safety, though he is more of a run support guy than a coverage back. Anderson is back at one OLB spot and he is a stud, there are 6 other OLB's on the roster for the spring, and 3 of them were highly recruited coming out including Noor Davis and Peter Kalambyi. At corner both Lyons and Carter are back, though Lyons need to work on his deep coverage. At strong safety Jordan Richards is back and another big recruit in Olugbode (5th yr) who has not produced in the past is claimed to be healthy. The big question is free safety. If you look at the spring practice roster Football - Roster - GoStanford.com there are no free safeties listed. That is SCARY. They are experimenting with moving Whitfield (converted wide out) and Dallas Lloyd (4* QB) to that spot.

Overall, given the even year schedule for Stanford, (most of the tough games on the road:Oregon, UW, ND, ASU and UCLA all on the road) I am hopeful for another 11-3 season (with a bowl) but would not be surprised to see the team come in at 8-4 to 9-3 plus a low level bowl.

Hey mcnabb, it takes more than practice, as Pops always said, practice does not make perfect... Perfect practice makes perfect. Me as a boy....

I remember that comment and those days, sometimes I thought the old man had lost it, when he quoted that...

Yes! And usually somewhere along the way I'd hear 'Tryers try & Doers do!' And I remember thinking how can I do if I don't even try! :laugh3:

Yes I thought the old man was crazy!

That is Reverend Dr. Bouncer to you sir! JK I am a title whore when it comes to stuff. I am actually starting another masters in the fall (Higher Ed Admin). So what is the fan view of the Dawgs coming into the season?

Oh and Mamba....Looks like I am 80% sure to be in Eugene for the Stanford v. Oregon game this year.
