As to the hoop. I come to the P12 thread almost exclusively, I think I have posted maybe 10 times out of 442, with this post, in other threads. I come here because the fans are passionate, usually articulate, and rarely troll (outside of UW/Oregon). I enjoy the trolling to a certain extent, since on the Stanford dedicated boards you get banned almost immediately for trolling.

A little smack talk is fun, and while I disagree with the points some make, I take it in stride as much as possible. I try to stick to football as much as possible here, I mean I see the signatures of some members, if I wanted to troll I would go after them personally. This place is a smack talk sanctuary where the lines between talking s%*$ and trolling seem to be enforced evenly by the mods. There are few schools I detest (aside from ND fuck those Teflon sons of bitches).

I dislike the UW because I grew up a Stanford fan at a high school with a view of Husky stadium across the lake (Lake Washington grad). I mean talk about getting smack talked try wearing a Stanford shirt to a school with the same colors as UW and a view of the stadium. I may have been one of 30 students who did not aspire to go to either UW or WSU.

I disagree with Regent on a few things, think Wiz takes things a little personal, know TF12, Mamba and Wallace an I might end up in jail if we all drank together etc. The fact is the fan base here is small and passionate, and not as likely to get rustled as the folks over on r/cfb or r/pac12.

4D20-

!!!!Warning this will get wordy!!!

Tl;DR I have my reasons for not using we/us, and I really do not feel it is about some kind of superiority complex. I find it disingenuous to say we.

I get what your are saying on the we/us thing, but it is not about putting your "self" (as in the true self, not the looking glass or social self, as per Cooley and Mead) above others, to me. at least. I very rarely use we or us to refer to just about anything I do not do. It is how I was raised. My father always taught me to not take credit for the accomplishments of others.I refer to the Stanford Alumni Association (of which I am a member) as we, but stopped referring to Stanford as we when I graduated. I can take credit for only those things I did when I was there. I referred to the Rugby (almost made the final 4 my Jr. year) and Lacrosse teams as we, when I played, but when I graduated I reverted to they.

I am a major homer for the program, I have many friends that are now on the faculty or coaching there, but I find it hubris (again my father's lessons) and snobbish to think that I, as a fan, have anything to do with a team winning or losing when I am watching it on TV. Outside of my contributions to the Buck Cardinal Club, I have nothing to do with those young men succeeding. If my donations, meager as they are, help a player to succeed that is great, but that young person found the path to success with their own will and the help of their coaches and teammates, I did not call them up and tell them how to fix their stance, why they had a hitch in their throwing motion (Hogan had a major one last year and is trying to fix it) or why the 3-4 is tougher to recruit than the 4-3 in terms down linemen. The most I can do as a fan is cheer for them, and if my voice gives them a boost on the few occasions I can travel to a game, that is great, then it was we the fans that helped the team.

I will always be proud of the institution win or lose, because I know D-Shaw and all the other coaches there are doing it the right way, putting academics first in recruiting, helping those kids graduate etc. When they become alums, WE will be peers and WE will do what we can as fans and supporters to help THE TEAM.

I do find it, as Wiz mentioned, a bit grammar nazi'esque to correct people on it, and I do not think I have here. It is one of those to each his own, but it came up in the thread so I voiced my opinion. I find it actually quite demeaning to the players to say we, so you an I again will have to disagree. However, that changes not iota, my view of you or your fandom. Heck if you leave I am the lone Stanford apologist.

Well I ain't going anywhere. I've put up with a ton of crap, and while some people may like to think I'm all hot and bothered, they don't really know me as well as they think. I'm just opinionated and raised to speak up for myself because you can't expect others to do it for you.

I understand the literal meanings of the words, and if someone wants to go by that - it's perfectly fine to me. I'm quite certain you do not mean to be putting people down with it, but believe me, that's not the case the majority of the time. Quite a bit of difference between an actual discussion about it, and people who just want to use it to throw crap at people.

USC quarterback Cody Kessler was named PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Week. 25-37 394 yards 4 passing td's and 1 rushing td.

In other news: Some fheg from the school across town made a few tackles, did a couple of other things and backed into being named the PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

You could have kept that under your hat while we argue SEC v PAC where the SEC's offensive player of the week (no doubt) blasted the Gamecocks at about the same rate.

What are you talking about? Besides self loathing?

I am still not buying the "poor 4d20 and his fellow Bammers" being fans that take more abuse than others.

The reason for blasting the dumb has zero to do with the Ducks. But is more about the knee jerk idiocy that I have seen. Including your team actually. And many others. I find it very funny that after game 1 people have determined what teams are made of and the season is settled already.

And not once has Oregon been brought up in these convos

I may have missed the whole shift of this argument but It only stands to reason that as the PAC lays claim to being the superior conference that more abuse will shift our/my/your/his/hers/their way. The SEC relished/relishes being hated for being the best and hate is often vocalized. We have worked towards that end for years and if, as many say, that shift is complete, then feel free to hate we/us/them, we have earned it. So bring it on! Hate me for what me/we/they are or for what we aspire to, makes no difference to me.

I'm guessing you'll pretend like it doesn't bother you while secretly getting upset as most USC fans do simply for calling South Carolina USC.
You're pathetic because you actually need to worry about how the fans of other teams feel about their teams and consider it a victory for yourself because of it.
Sorry. I just wanted to see those two quotes next to one another to see how they looked.

Christ. Enough already.

Can we get back to talking about PAC FB around here instead of pages with circular argument rants about the social nuances of conf fanbases. It's like an episode of Doctor Phil talking college sports fandom.

I know everyone is dealing with the overdose of week 1, but let's get over the hangover and back to what's going on this week with the PAC and let the riffraff "lessor" confs deal with their own shortcomings over on their boards.

I'm not above dishing it back by any means. I have no trouble admitting that kind of stuff is pathetic, even if I do it. It isn't intellectual. It's all ignorant and it generally brings the quality of the forums down. I've thought so for quite sometime now.

Sorry sorry ok how about the weekday games this week

Arizona @ UTSA on Thursday
WSU @ Nevada on Friday

Neither should be taken lightly but I think Arizona and WSU should win.

UTSA matches up pretty good with us since they have a solid defense with some big corners to put on our beastly receivers, but I think we should win comfortably when it's all said and done.

They'll be going nuts because it's a big home game for them and they could come out hot... but once the adrenaline settles down our offense should carry us to victory. I'm not taking them lightly one bit.
