The Mets are on the verge of hiring Joey Cora, the older brother of Red Sox manager Alex Cora, as their new third-base coach, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by the New York Post.

Meh...so much for "intentions"......easy come..easy go....but I understand that decision.

Elian Soto, a 16-year-old outfielder and third baseman from the Dominican Republic who isn't eligible to formally sign until next year's international free agent class, has verbally agreed to join the Nationals, for whom his brother Juan Soto plays.

The MLB Players Association is expected to make a counteroffer to the league on Monday, 11 days after clubs gave the union a proposal, sources told ESPN.

After a face-to-face meeting that lasted about two hours and saw some progress, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association plan to meet again Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Sources: MLB open to pre-arbitration bonus pool

MLB indicated for the first time that it is open to a pre-arbitration bonus pool during a labor meeting Tuesday with the players' association, but the sides remain far apart on how much should be distributed, according to sources.

Many in the industry believe an agreement needs to be reached by Feb. 1 in order for spring training camps to open on time. The union has prepared a "war chest" in case the lockout lingers. Players will receive $5,000 in the first week of February as well as the first week of March if a deal isn't struck.

The sides next plan to work on a dozen non-core economic issues, in order to end the lockout as soon as the major points are agreed upon.

I agree but I think we might be stuck with him unless he's willing to play in minors and wait for injury call up.

We figured it was coming but this is good news. Whether it's Dom, JD Davis, Cano, it gives us flexibility and helps us field a much better defense.
