That really puts AZ up toward the cap with not much in terms of great players on the team save OEL.

Something tells me their GM kinda sucks at this.

Team makes trade...

Without paying attention to the fact that the Avs already had like 40 million in space.
Maybe they're looking at Aho or Point.

At the very least, moving their 2C might send a scare into those teams and maybe convince them to trade. The extra cap space could help if, say, TB lowers the return in exchange for taking a contract.

Blue Jackets re-sign Clendening to two-year extension

@forty_three .... Exactly what the Jackets need is two more years of Clendening.

Better than three years of Johnson

He was competent in a tough situation that I hope the Jackets are never in again. D this year should shape up in such a way that he should be a 9D/Practice mule. 1st year I heard was 2 way so I hope he enjoys Cleveland. The depth chart ahead of him looks pretty tough for him to penetrate without injuries or trades:

Jones - Werenski
Murray - Nutivaara
Gavrikov - Savard
Kukan - Peeke

And McQuaid is welcome back if he recovers.

Spreadsheets don't lie!

Maybe we can pry Galchenyuk away for Murray and Dubinsky.

I will honestly be insulted if Panarin picks them over Columbus with all the "wanna be in a big exciting city" business.

I doubt he'd go there.

My guess is they wanted Boeser from Vancouver for Barrie and I'm assuming if they are serious about moving Barrie it would be for another winger of that calibre. Barrie's pending UFA status probably isn't helping them on that front though.

Boeser is worth Barrie plus Rantanen. Maybe Vancouver throws in a conditional first rounder to get that done.

But .. analytics

To be fair (exported to excel heh) to the stats nerds, chayka was and has always been seen as an outsider. He didnt share his data collection/analysis techniques with anyone in that mafia. There has never been any peer review of his work which he has always said is proprietary :noidea:

When you add that to the fact hes an outsider with the old “hockey men” “eye test” crowd, you can basically say hes just some lone wolf dude with a spreadsheet :thumb:
