I'm really happy the Leafs don't have the cap space to sign Tyler Myers because that is something I could totally see Babcock making Dubas do.

That contract is gonna have the potential to make Jack Johnson's look bad.

Holy fuck, Byram and Hughes? Almost as deadly as Byram and Makar. WTF were they thinking? 3 years of Seabrook for that future and they said NO?

Edit: Sorry 5. But still, compliance buyout at next lockout = 3 years

Yah ... if they made that deal drafted byram and then acquilini came out and said were buying out seabrook, Francesco would have never had to give water to a blueberry picker again in this area and wed all look the other way :noidea:

Or even keep seabrook for a couple years... would have stopped them from going after myers

I like the idea but say they buy him out in 2021, they'd be on the hook for cap hits of $3.7 mil, $6.7 mil and $5.2 mil through 2023-24. Chances are that by then the Canucks might be tight for cap room as it is.

Of course, you could always just do what the Leafs did this weekend and trade him around that time along with a late first rounder if the Canucks are in that good of a position. At least they get a better prospect out of the entire situation (and maybe that deal stops Benning from making the Miller trade) and the cap space saved may be worth it.

I would call bullshit these insane numbers being tossed about for Tyler Myers if it weren't for the fact that I and pretty much every other sane person called bullshit on the crazy numbers for Johnson last summer and then he went out and got those numbers lol.

These guys just can't fucking help themselves.

I'd rather have Tyler Myers for 7 years at 50 mil or so than whatever is left on Doughty's contract. He's washed and it's not even close.

And when a legit guy comes looking for his payday (Werenski this year, Jones in 3), the comparibles are all fucked up.

Seth Jones walks in and says "Tyler Myers got 8 mil"

*Jarmo drops trou and bends over* "Be gentle"

At least with Werenski we can try and get him to be still under RFA at the end of this one.

PLD already makes more than that. And certainly will get well above min quali offer next summer. If not well before.

Myers is a decent enough defenseman but yikes 8 million a year? That's 3-4 million to much for him.

Now what the hell do I know but 2 suggested changes I would bring to the table if I was in a position to do so:

1: Adjust the cap to somehow factor in taxes/net pay. Makes too much sense, you're punishing/rewarding teams for things beyond their control.

2: Players you have drafted should count less towards the cap. Example, for the Leafs, Matthews/Marner/Nylander's cap hit should only be 90% or something like that. A little reward for drafting well.

Thoughts?

Why would the Flames dip into free agency to get a goalie who is measurably worse in every way?
