Cow explosions


The strangest stories on the web this week include ...


With a loud moo and a boom, methane gas from a herd of flatulent cows caused an explosion on a farm in Rasdorf, Germany. The concentration of the gas produced by a group of around 90 cows damaged the roof of a cow shed, leaving one of the animals injured. A static electric charge caused the gas to explode with flashes of flames. A potent greenhouse gas, methane produced by cows can reach up to 500 litres a day, a problem that is believed to contribute to global warming.
