I was thinking, if Bryz is lackluster then it should be considered. The only reason I consider that though is because Bernier is going to be an RFA. I do not want to replace Bryz with an older Backstrom, especially since Homer will end up giving him a 5 year contract.

Pronger should be the first guy.

pronger will get one ASAP so he can retire

i expect them to hold on to the 2nd one.. see what they can do about goalies in free agency this summer, or if bryz has a good season, and if they cant improve this summer, they'll keep bryz for another year and buy him out next summer (if he still isn't a standout in goal)

i think they have 2 summers to use these up if i'm not mistaken

Ok first off it has yet to be confirmed if buyouts can be used on injured players at all.

Bryz won't get bought out if he doesn't have an incredibly bad season or the FLyers are able trade or sign a top quality goalie(Jimmy Howard) by next summer.

I know most people on here don't agree with me on this but by next summer if Briere isn't willing to wave his NTC I think the Flyers will have to entertain the idea of buying him out. Yes he puts up playoff points and is a supposed good locker room presence but with Giroux, B. Schenn and Couturier needing to be re-signed and all looking to be in line for substantial raises they need to take priority. I also think Timonen's decision after this season and his pice tag should he return will factor into Briere's fate.

Looking at our roster for the 14-15 season(since the cap won't be an issue this year) with no buy-outs and Pronger being on ltir we get...

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m)
Jakub Voracek ($4.250m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Eric Wellwood ($0.580m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Bruno Gervais ($0.825m)
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
BUYOUTS
Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,234,444; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (18-man roster): $9,670,556

Obviously that includes re-signing Timo, Wellwood and Rinaldo(I left their current cap hits in since I'm not going to predict what they'd be). They'd also need to sign/call-up 1 F, 1D & 1G.

If they used buyouts on Bryz & Briere(since we don't know if 1 could be used on Pronger and if he wants the $ there's no reaosn to buy him out honestly since ltir stays the same on this CBA) we'd have...

Again Timmo, Wellwood and Rinaldo re-signed. We'd need to sign 3F, 1D & 2G with a pretty good FA class coming up around 18-20m in cap space.

Honestly I'm sorta excited to see exactly what Homer can pull off this upcoming summer.

Can we buy out Briere then re-sign him for a cheaper price? Did I just create the NEW cap circumvention?

I believe there was a 1 year wait on re-signing a player your team buys out.

I'm actually hoping that if by some strange turn of events we're not in the playoff race that Briere would ok a trade and we could re-coup a D-man from a team looking for that last piece to push them over the top.

Lets see how Bryz plays this season to see if we buy him out. We need someone to play new if it isnt him.
Briere is worth his money and I think only has 2 years left including this one

Maybe Nashville will buyout Weber and we can grab him???

I hate to say it, but the Weber dream is over. They arent paying him all this money just to buy him out, and lose him for nothing.

Just saw this. What a ridiculous rule? Must be player driven to protect guys that get hurt?

Not that big of a deal. Just justifies us keeping a buyout for someone else.

my guess is that unless bryz puts together a humangous big season, he's bought out this summer. second buyout..well since pronger is not eligible, i really can't forsee anyone else getting a buyout. even if briere's contract is a little big, he's got 2 years left, theres no real need to buy him out at this point. unless they are allowed to buy him out then resign him at a lower price, but i feel that theres gotta be some rule or something against that.

I am excited to see what Homer does with the D, because I can just about guarantee that he makes some sort of splash.

agreed. he knows he needs to do something. whats so frustrating is that we always have that incredible young core on offense but never have that young stud D man or 2 to build around. flyers havent produced a home grown star defenseman in years, maybe even a decade or more. frustrating.

A Canuck fan of the main board mentioned how he thought Edler would be gone, but told me that he thinks Edler is going to have an injury filled career.

I'd take him still. :)
