AWAZ i thought of a player that would be a perfect example of the gritty type player with size that i was trying to explain yesterday. He is right on our bench Ian Laperrier. If Weiss could play that style of game he wouldn't be such a waste.

I can agree with that. I would sub Weiss out for a few years ago Lappierre in a heart beat.

I know it's just one shootout, but maybe Voracek and Ghost deserve more opportunities in the future. I mean, we sent them out 5th and 9th and they were our only two shooters to score. I'm not quite sure why we keep sending Cousins out first. He has yet to score this season.

None of this should matter anyway if we would just learn how to close out games once we get a multiple goal lead. We're more than capable of getting the puck deep and cycling it in their zone. Just roll four lines and keep after it. If the other team gets any significant momentum, call a timeout to stall it and regroup.

Another huge game tonight also. Ottawa is just four points clear of us, so a regulation win puts us right there with them and avenges a loss earlier this season too.

And again, maybe Streit should take a seat here to rest his legs once Manning returns healthy. He is turning 39 here in about a week afterall and I don't think we will necessarily miss him. It could only help matters.

I really liked how Ghost was saying he was watching Rask and noticed how he was keeping his hands to low, then he goes out and chips a soft one up and past him....That was Great!!!!

Now my question is, how the hell do they determine who goes out for the shootouts????
If its just a random pick, I have to say we have much better choices than some of the picks we make.

I agree and I also think that TK needs to be used a lot more in OT. The last two OT games he maybe played 20 seconds

Ottawa is a shut down team. They play a style that is bad for hockey. A lot of sticks in the passing lanes a lot of blocked shots. Hopefully we can overcome that style of play.

I agree with that! I was wondering where he was. Then they throw TK, Schenn, and I think it was Ghost out for a shift. Talk about going for the win. They don't have a defensive thought between them when they're on the ice!

What I really hate about the shootout takers is they all come in so damn slow. I don't remember who scored for Boston but he was the only guy of the 18 shooters to take it with speed and scored easily. It's too easy for the goalie to be patient when your skating at grandpa pace. I don't care who you are, your hands aren't quick enough to make up that speed.

Im just happy we won a shootout, last year it was an automatic loss. If im not mistaken Mase has played very well in shootouts this year.

I have to agree. I would fly in on net as fast as I could. Almost as if it were a breakaway and someone were chasing me. I think that's the best way to approach it. Make the goalie think extremely quickly or panic and make the first move.

Either way, I think everyone (fans, players and coaches) agrees that we have to get out of that win/loss funk that we've been in for most of the season and that doesn't happen anytime soon unless we win tonight.

So how is the lineup for the shootout figured?????

It just seems when we have a shootout the hot hands on the team aren't in the lineup.....

Sorry....didn't mean to go off topic here

I would think they occasionally practice it and get a feel for who is and isn't confident taking them. Then just trot them out there. I would imagine past about 5 the coach is just guessing though.

Though i do know, at least with Berube, they very rarely practiced the shootout.

I think we had a great start with no reward, then the first penalty killed it and we never regained that until several minutes into the second period and hung on throughout the third. Really great to see Voracek and Giroux dominate together. I guess that's a solid road game altogether, especially when you consider that they won the special teams battle over us, which would usually mean we lost.

Maybe we can get on a little streak and it was nice to see the Rags lose and we are now only 2 losses behind them.

and another two points without Couts which is huge i cant wait until hes back.
