Mall nice job by your Buckeyes good luck in the finals gonna be a tough one.

Thanks bro. I have not posted here in awhile. Happy New Year and hope everyone had a wonderful xmas and continues through 2015. I see the Flyers are still struggling. As far as my Buckeyes go, it's been quite a season of emotions for this team. I think the VT game was the turning point for this young team to figure out the direction they were going. Breaking a young new OL to start with, a backup QB starting his 2nd game of his career as a true freshman, and injuries to key players on the defense. Who knew our 3rd stringer QB would get us to this point.
On another note, I'm sure awaz knows that VT is not on the same level as OSU at this point. They got us early and took full advantage of beating our ass. We get them in Blacksburg next season.:suds:

Tweeters saying he's taking the morning skate tomorrow so that's a good sign.

Maybe they are saying he's hurt to get Razor in vs Washington. Maybe the spark we need Razor going for round 2.

Schenn playing because Washington has more big bodies. Apparently to Chief, size does matter.

Nicklas Grossmann is a disaster waiting to happen - Broad Street Hockey

I find all this advanced stats stuff to be interesting. I really can't decide if I like them or not. In this case, I think Grossmann has been pretty solid this year, which isn't what the advanced stats say. It will be interesting to see how this progresses.

I just think there's so much more to the Streit/Grossmann pairing than advanced stats can point to. I'm not ruling out a collapse, because it could happen, but even if it does, it may not be entirely predicted by the advanced stats. Grossmann also has 2 horrendous knees that probably can't last 82 games anyway. An already deficiently mobile guy like Grossmann, losing speed due to wear and tear, is a perfectly reasonable statement to make about a possible disaster.

he's also 4th on the team in +/-.

there's just so many variables, that can be flawed in themselves (ie 'scoring chances') that go in to these types of analyses, I feel like it's projecting stuff based on multiple guesses, which just doesn't seem like a sound predictor. but it does seem to be right a lot. I'm going to pay attention to Grossmann the rest of the year to see how it goes.

The only problem with Grossmann and the Grossmann/Streit pairing is that they are a good 2nd pair that's playing 1st pair minutes and opponents.

In my view the problem with Grossmann isn't that he makes glaring mistakes - he rarely does. The problem is the fact that he's a poor skater and a below-average passer, which combined make him a huge liability in terms of getting the puck out of the defensive zone and transitioning effectively to offense.

I still think it's good to have a mix of defensive guys and puck movers if you can't get top shelf talent that can do both. So I like Grossmann on the team, given what they have to work with. Just interesting that the fancy stats say he's horrible.

I'm going Schultz.

(partly because I think Grossmann and Macdonald are too easy)

Anyone notice the defense was much better with:

1) A Mac out of the line up;
2) Schenn in, A Mac out; and
3) Only 5 dmen (better than 6 when A Mac plays).

Of course Grossmann gets injured. We may actually be better dressing 5 dmen than playing 6 when A Mac is 1 of 6. Noting how much better we are without A Mac, maybe CC should reappear.
