Jesus, this is fucking torture. All I can do is occasionally watch preseason football as a neutral fan and my only solace is witnessing Jeff Gordon dominate Nascar on a weekly basis.

I hear you. The only other sport I really give a shit about is Formula 1, and even that has been on it's summer break until next Sunday.

Really? None of you guys like baseball or soccer or even the LL world series is on.

I follow the Pirates in baseball, but it doesn't absorb my free time, or beat just about anything in terms of 'something to do'.

I'll go out of my way to watch soccer. Heavy lean towards Liverpool right now, but hardly a die-hard fan. Going to the USWNT game tomorrow night in Raleigh, very excited. Also root for the Sounders in the MLS. Really just love watching/playing soccer though. Playing tonight, first game of the fall season!

LLWS is just not that interesting to me.

NFL bores me to death, but is slightly above racing in terms of interesting to me.

I grew up with baseball, but lost interest somewhere along the line. Soccer...I've tried to watch it, I....just....can't....

Awaz loves it but I agree with you on soccer cant watch a match like the world cup final where the German goalie played 120 minutes and had 1 save boring as can be. Baseball not the most exciting sport but for me definitely better than soccer at least we got football back and college football starts real soon.

I'm a Georgia Bulldog fan, I know Mall is an Ohio St fan and Awaz loves his V Tech who else wants to give their team a shout out :yahoo:.

Even when I ALMOST start to get interested in it, the fact that there are 22 whiny little Cindy Crosby-esque bitches out there just completely turns me off. European soccer in particular is just plain pathetic. I didn't mind watching the Latin American teams as much in the World Cup. They were dirty but at least played like men.

Even as a soccer enthusiast this drives me nuts. If I were a ref, diving would be an auto-yellow and any embellishments would negate fouls all together. I don't understand why FIFA refuses to make changes to prevent this garbage. Allow retro-active yellows. 99% of dives are blatantly obvious on replay and the ref wears head sets. Let the 4th official watch the replays and radio in when someone dove. You can't expect 1 official to be able to cover 81,000 sq feet and be able to tell the difference. Blows my mind that they don't try to combat this epidemic.

That being said, I've been playing soccer for like 19-20 of my 25 years in existence. I love playing and love the strategy side of the game. Watching pros do it, I'm just in awe of what they can do physically and love watching plays develop. I get a much different kind of enjoyment from watching soccer than I do from watching hockey.

Whether someone has played a particular sport or not is definitely is a huge factor in the enjoyment they get from just watching a game from the stands or on TV. I played hockey, baseball and raced go-karts, which clearly influenced what I watch today.

oh absolutely. it just creates a different amount of respect for what the professionals are pulling off. I've never played organized hockey, so I don't get the same respect for them. But there's nothing even close to hockey in terms of natural excitement or entertainment during the game. So much can happen, so fast, it's not even worth comparing to other sports in excitement/passion IMO.

Flyers could be better in shootouts next season for sure, the extra points are key and you see with the Devils, when you're bad in the shootout, it's the difference between playoffs and no playoffs

That being said, in the past, shootout issues for the Flyers were due to goaltending but Steve Mason's been really good in the shootouts, imo - they just don't score enough and part of that is I don't think they're not as creative as they should be and the guys they have aren't necessarily skilled as far as one on one type plays

hate shootouts. the flyers shouldn't have to practice them because they shouldn't be in the game.

but I suppose, since they are, it's good that they'll devote a little more time to it.

I like shootouts after the 5 minute OT. Its so much better than watching a whole game that ends up in a tie.

Lets hope we are 1 goal up at the end of 60 minutes and don't need to worry about the shootout. :yahoo:

ROW is very important too and that can make a difference in tiebreakers so for that alone it's important not to get to many shootouts

I'm sure people will just brush this off as 'old traditionalist', but I really think the analytics BS is overblown. Is it helpful? Probably. Is it worth hiring a full time dude to do analytics, probably not. And it's certainly not worth having an analytics department like some teams are starting to do.

For every stat in a team sport that's as rooted in team play and bang-bang situations, there's a reason it's bull shit. I think the analytics craze is just a bunch of stuff for guys to write about because people who don't watch the game will read it so they can try to talk about hockey intelligently.
