Someone help me out. I don't understand why Shero is thought of as a great GM. I think I may be ignorant to what he's done. I mean he hit on some number 1 picks in Crosby, Malkin and Fleury. All of which were no brainers I believe. The Pens won 1 cup with those guys. Shero signed some REDICULOUS CONTRACTS and seems to have the Pens salary cap strapped with long term, huge money deals to Crosby, Malkin, Letang and throw Neal in there. He didn't seem to make any great finds in FA or trades to get Pittsburgh another cup in my opinion. He made deals, but they didn't work out in the end.

Now please don't jump down my throat. I fully admit I don't think I am educated enough on his tenure. I am just looking for some feedback as to why he has this great reputation as a stellar GM. Thanks boys.

i think he's stellar. he's made a lot of moves to bring in a lot of talent. sure he's got a few crazy contracts, every GM does, it's part of managing a contending hockey team.

all of those were fantastic pick ups for the pens over the past 5-6 years. plus, you don't have a perennial stanley cup favorite with a garbage GM. he got a lot of help from crosby and malkin, sure, but regardless of how talented they are, they cant do it alone. case in point, this season. but they also lost 500+ man-games to injury this year. that's not on the GM.

He makes good moves at the deadline & I like some of his draft decisions, but he gave out way too many bad contracts last season & someone had to lose their job over it.

He makes good trades but that's it - he's bad at drafting and his contracts he's given out(Rob Scuderi) have been horrible

the kings for sure. outside of my homer pick of the flyers, I had the kings to win the cup. IMO they have the most talent and the best goaltending in the league. by a good margin IMO.

kopitar, Williams, brown, Richards, carter, gaborik.. I mean come on.. that's 6 full fledged, first line caliber NHL players. (though I still don't think Richie is ) not to mention stoll, toffoli, and king are all quality top 9 guys too.

doughty, muzzin, Martinez.. all great dmen

and quick is the best goalie in the league.

anything short of winning the cup should be viewed as a colossal failure to me.
