yep the area seems alright and all
we eat at a place called Home Cafe a lot
its been thar for ages its seems --a lot of pictures on the wall from the 40's and 50's

Go to Johnny's Cafe Pops. It's on the south side of 30th and L St, right off of I-75.

My Site

It's an old established Omaha Italian steakhouse. It's tradition to get a pasta side at Omaha steakhouses. If you get asked what type of pasta you want, you know you're at a traditional Omaha steakhouse.

Also start out with a bowl of French Onion Soup. Johnny's makes the best.

Good for Lunch or Dinner and the same prices you'd see at national franchise chains like Outback.

and thats all I have to say about that

Traditional Omaha steakhouses don't require fancy duds.

Traditional Omaha Italian Steakhouses (many are now closed).

Casio's, Mr C's, Caniglia's, Johnny's Cafe, Piccolo Pete's, Venice Inn, Anthony's.

Friday nights they were always a long wait to be seated because it was payday and everybody took their families out to dinner.

Piccolo Pete's is in South O and I think they're still open. Great place.

Anthony's is still open. They are on 72nd and F St. Good eats.

Probably a business meeting. When my dad's boss would come into town, he always took my mom and dad out to steak dinner. They'd get all dressed up in fancy duds.

Get the French Onion Soup, sir

Thank me later.

I would destroy a bowl of that right now.

Then proceed to a Ribeye, Mostaccioli, hash browns, and dinner salad.

Don't forget Ross's, Angie's and Gorat's. I think Gorat's is the only one of these still open.

When I was first married I took my wife to pink poodle over in Crescent. Now we didn't have a lot back then unless you are talking kids. 3 kids at the time and poor as a church mouse. So this was an uncommon treat for us.
Made reservations and showed up. I was in my jeans, not the newest but no holes and a flannel shirt (tucked in too) and they went to seat us at this little table right off the kitchen door.
Kind of looked at it and Isis knew I wasn't happy with it so she said real quick said Thank you this will be fine.

But I looked at the hostess and said "Do your waitresses work for tips" and she just looked at me real odd and said yes.
So I replied, now my wife is fine with this table because she doesn't ask for much, but I would like to treat her to a special evening and I am afraid with your waitresses and busboys hustling through that door all night that's not going to happen. Then I will be disappointed and feel like I shouldn't tip your waitress because we did not have an enjoyable experience. Then your waitress is going to be upset and it will all be because of this table right here. Are you sure you don't have something a little better?

She took us to a table in the main dining room, the waitress did a wonderful job and got an excellent tip.

Oh the food was delicious there also. Prime rib and all the fixins
