Any time the Niners don't win the division I don't care for the current system, but I'm fine with it when SF runs away with the division. At the same time I could get behind the top 6 teams making it into the playoffs, I'd just want the NFL to work on keeping GOOD rivalries going.

IMO the NFC West rivalries are the least interesting of almost any division. I just don't care about the Cards or Rams. Seattle trolls us, so I like rooting for SF to beat them, but I'd much rather see the Niners playing GB, Dallas, ATL, NO, or even Carolina every year. I like the old division/rivalries of the 90s better because they had actual history.

Me? Get sensitive about debate? :laugh3: I'm not the one who got sensitive my dude.

And your hypothetical doesn't make sense because:

1- The NFCW wouldn't exist if it were up to me (there would be no divisions)

2- You play 6 division games a year. That leaves 12 outside the division games. If an NFCW team ends up 8-8 beating up on teams outside the division, that means he was beat up on INSIDE the division.

3- If everyone beats on everyone in the NFCW, is it fair to assume that everyone would be .500 in the division? That means a 3-3 record for everyone. That would mean that 8-8 NFCW team would have to have gone 5-5 OUTSIDE the division.

Highly unlikely hypothetical, if not impossible.

Dear, Lord, I'm talking about the current system as compared to your model.

Furthermore, if you weren't sensitive to debate, you wouldn't name call like a petulant child.

Onward to the debate, good sir.

I've lurked SF boards for a LOOOONG time before I started posting, and that's just clyde. He's not emotional, he just isn't afraid to talk shit. You shouldn't take it personal.

I don't know him that well. I don't mind shit talking in the least. What I do mind is being called an idiot when I question a moronic idea. Ya know what I mean? :noidea:

There's no point in continuing this conversation with smiley face. His wants have already been proven unlogical.

Okay, break out down. 8-8, how many wins in division and how many outside?

Don't be a douche. 0-6 & 8-2. It's not calculus. It was a mere hypothetical. Admittedly unlikely. You present an extreme idea, expect the same in reverse.

We've seen the other extreme (winning all divisional games), but this example you propose would probably result in said team missing the playoffs, since it would almost be guaranteed that another divisional team would go at least 8-8 in the same division. All the 3 other teams start with 2 free wins, so all 1 of 3 other divisional teams would need to do is win just 6 out of the 14 other games. It wouldn't be all that hard to find 1 team to do that.

Meh, just proposing something as absurd as the OP did. If every other team in the division finished at 8-8 or below, they'd still lose out to the team who was perfect within the division.

I hope we can stop arguing this now, sir. I'm submitting ideas that are equal to the idea of no division. We all rail against college footballs playoff system (or lack thereof) and yet this guy wants that in the NFL.

I say present the idea to, Goodell and see if he responds.:suds:

Wait, there are no divisions/conferences in college football? I had no idea.

Why is it okay to reward mediocricy? That's one one thing I don't get with this divisions crap. We reward the mediocre teams and punish a better team in the process. I don't think the saying " well you should have won more games" is legit. Because they did win more games yet are not being rewarded for it.

I doubt many of you would sing the same tune if we were in this situation. Also I think more rivalries will be created if divisions are taken out. It seems half the time teams only get up for divisional games. Take that away and it makes every game important. Teams won't be able to fall back on there division. This rewarding them for mediocracy.

We are kinda in this situation, too. There's a good chance, as a 12-4 team, we'd have to go ON THE ROAD to play an 8-8 or a 9-7 team.

In what world is that a good system?

Let me save everyone some time, because I know what your responses are gonna be:

- This is the way it's always been
- Well, just win more games then
- It doesn't matter, rivalries are more important than getting the right teams into the playoffs
- Stop crying

Have I summarized your responses well enough?

Totally agree!

I just would like to hear the other sides arguement about why is it ok to rewards mediocracy?

And just because this isn't the first time this may happen why is that acceptable? Why are we ok with rewarding the crappier teams? Why is this something we are okay with? Because it's the way it's always been? Or because it barely happens? One time is more than enough for it to happen.

Because there is not a league in any sport at any level with a better system than the NFL.

Each team has a division, partly as a scheduling tool, partly because division rivalries are the heart of the NFL.

Each team builds to beat their division. They are rewarded for this by making the playoffs and earning a home game.

Two teams that weren't good enough to win their division are given the gift of a wildcard spot. If they are truly superior, they should have no issue going on the road to win. If they can't win on the road, how much better were they?

Teams that were both not good enough to win their division and not good enough to beat the rest of the field for the gift of a wild card spot don't make the playoffs, as they don't deserve to. They should focus on improving their team to win their division.
