how much is Mike Trout worth now? he played 157 games last year. Kershaw only played 33.

I sure wish I knew the feeling of holding a check that says $18,000,000 in my hand, signing it, and handing it to bank teller.

I'd ask to have it cashed, just to see their reaction :)

In a few years the Rangers will be sure to let you know

Hoping Pooholes prevents them from resigning Trout, or compounds with Trouts LAA contract to prevent them from getting anyone else.

you're saying Texas will cough up enough dough for Trout?? I can't wait to see this.

I'm surprised the media hasn't been in pooholes' face. he was n/a last year.

I originally had written "hand it to the hot little bank teller" but took that out. Funny how the first thing men realize is that men get at least 3 points added to their hotness scale for every $10MM they have :pound:

Probably not, because Trout will likely sign an extension or get traded and sign an extension and LAA ain't trading him to Texas.

But, if we did want to sign him I don't see why we couldn't. We have a lot of money and a TV contract too. We will have $53M tied up in Fielder/Choo/Andrus, but nothing else from our current team (unless we pick up Harry's contract). I know a LOT of guys will be extended by then, but I wouldn't sit here today and say there is no way in 2018 we would be able to make a massive offer to Trout.

It's not how much, but who can give him the most that I am interested in. And, what team has shown that it is willing to pay top dollar for players lately........?

Hmm.....?

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, limited to 17 games last season because of injuries, says he will probably start on-field work Monday.

Jeter, at his Turn 2 Foundation golf classic Wednesday night, said his offseason has been going well and he's ''looking forward to getting out there.''
The longtime Yankees captain, who turns 40 next June, began last season on the disabled list after breaking his left ankle in the 2012 playoffs. He was on the DL four times, including stints for right quadriceps and right calf injuries, in the most frustrating season of his 19-year career.
Jeter was limited to five spring training games last year and stayed behind when the team broke camp. He continued rehabilitation at New York's minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. early in the season. While he was rehabbing, he broke the ankle again.
The Yankees and Jeter agreed to a $12 million, one-year contract in November.

These players avoided arbitration with their respected clubs.

 • Josh Outman, who avoided arbitration with the Indians last night, will earn a $1.25MM salary in 2014, the Associated Press reports (via ESPN).
 • The Rockies have avoided arbitration with lefty Franklin Morales, reports Thomas Harding of MLB.com ([ame=""]via Twitter[/ame]). Morales was recently picked up from the Red Sox in exchange for Jonathan Herrera, and was projected to earn $1.8MM by Swartz. His salary comes in just below that mark at $1.7125MM, according to a [ame=""]tweet[/ame] from the Denver Post's Troy Renck.
 • Burke Badenhop has settled on a one-year deal with the Red Sox, the club announced in a press release. The right-handed reliever, who was acquired from the Brewers back in November, came with a projected $2.2MM price tag and will in fact earn $2.15MM, according to a [ame=""]tweet[/ame] from WEEI.com's Alex Speier. Badenhop's last two seasons have been uncannily similar. In both 2012 and 2013, Bandenhop threw 62 1/3 innings, registered 42 strikeouts (6.1 K/9) against 12 walks (1.7 BB/9), and surrendered six home runs. He allowed just one less hit (62) last year than in 2012, though his ERA rose from 3.03 to 3.47 due to a drop in his strand rate.
 • The Mets have reached agreement with infielder Ruben Tejada on a 2014 contract, the club announced [ame=""]on Twitter[/ame]. He will earn a $1.1MM salary in his first year of arbitration eligibility, [ame=""]tweets[/ame] Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, which is in line with his $1MM projection. Tejada struggled to a .202/.259/.260 mark in 227 plate appearances last year, but is still only 24 years old. He will have three more years of arb eligibility since he qualified as a Super Two player.
 • The Rangers have reached agreement on a one-year deal to avoid arbitration with southpaw Neal Cotts, the club announced via press release. The deal will pay Cotts $2.2MM, [ame=""]tweets[/ame] Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Cotts will earn $700K over Swartz's projection.
 • Outfielder Michael Saunders has reached agreement with the Mariners on a deal to avoid arbitration, reports Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times ([ame=""]via Twitter[/ame]). The 27-year-old will earn $2.3MM (plus incentives) in his first arb-eligible season, Divish [ame=""]tweets[/ame], which comes in just above the $2MM projection from Swartz.

A New York mom vacationing in South Florida was expecting a healthy dose of sun, surf and fun. Imagine her surprise when her daughter unzipped a bag in their rental Nissan Rogue and found a rifle — a big rifle. Looking just like the ones real soldiers use.

Horrified, she immediately called E-Z Rent-A-Car and then drove to the nearest police station.

And there would be one more surprise: The AR-15 semiautomatic had been left behind by model Lauren Tannehill, the wife of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

“We got out of the car, we were kind of freaked out,” Judith Fleissig recalls of the moment this month when she and her daughter found the weapon. “I didn’t want to touch it.”

Fleissig on Jan. 6 turned over the gun to the closest police station, following the rental company’s recommendation, officials said.

Authorities conducted a review and determined it was legally owned and accidentally left behind

Well now we know -

[ame=""]Jon Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting[/ame] that the latest development in replay talks is that the “neighborhood play” — where the second baseman catches the ball off the bag and throws to first base in an attempt to both avoid an incoming runner and complete a double-play, and is given credit for the force out — will not be reviewable. [ame=""]Morosi adds[/ame] that a manager may challenge that the second baseman did not make a catch but cannot challenge that the second baseman was on the bag when he received the ball.
Further, [ame=""]Morosi says[/ame] that a big reason why the play will not be reviewable is that forcing a second baseman to catch the ball while on the bag increases his risk of being injured by an incoming runner. The extra split-second or full second that he must hang around the bag increases his odds of having the runner slide into him, or being up-ended as he attempts to leap over the runner. Additionally, the runner is also at risk. This is how Justin Morneau suffered his concussion in July 2010.
