I would say a team that's never made a major tourney before knocking out England would be bigger.Plus side: England are out.
Plusser side: Maybe Greece over Portugal isn't the biggest soccer upset ever anymore? Maybe?
Greece had only qualified for a major tournament before once, and lost all 3 games without scoring. They beat the host country, who you could easily make the argument for having the best squad in the tournament, twice while also beating France and the Czechs while tying Spain.I would say a team that's never made a major tourney before knocking out England would be bigger.
Pretty sad that Canada has 100 times the population of Iceland and we can't get close to their level of success as far as the men's team is concerned.

I guess hindsight is factoring in, given that Greece were the winners of the tournament and beat Portugal twice to do it. If Iceland goes on to win the tournament, we might look back and say that it wasn't as big of an upset as originally figured.Greece had only qualified for a major tournament before once, and lost all 3 games without scoring. It's a tough call.
This is the thing about soccer in Canada and the US - is merely getting a participation ribbon good enough? It appears to be the case in the US as nobody will come out and say the team flat out underachieves or sucks; it's always they did ok.
We've also got a massive population base and plenty of money for training facilities, etc. (to differentiate from countries like China and India). We should be better. At least the US is qualifying for World Cups (they almost beat Belgium in 2014) and they had a nice run at Copa America.
