Had a new roof put on my house. I switched from off ridge vents to a full ridge vent with a solar powered attic fan. That fan is really cool and the A/C seems to run less. Won't know for sure until I get one or two bills but it appears to be the case
I've had one of those fans for 12 years. I added roof solar then and put the inverter in the attic (to reduce loss of current caused by distance) but without the fan the attic gets too in the summer. I've had no issues with the inverter over that time.

So my house is small and the engineer said by switching to the full ridge vent with powered attic fan. One works for me. Sounds like you have a larger house not sure what venting you have. My electric company keeps raising prices I keep doing enerfy upgrades so far I am pretty much breaking even
I timed solar right back 12 years ago. Not only did I stop my electric bill but my incentives paid back $25k more than I paid for the solar during the first 10 years. I bought an electric car in 2018 and saw my first electric bill in 2021 (after a couple years of eating through credits on my bill). I now pay about $300 per year, only because the evil electric company doubles the rates during the winter (I'm sure it's to not pay full value on the saved solar credits).

I didn't go solar or buy the electric car to be "green". I saw the value, took a gamble and it paid off. It especially paid off given the huge increase in rates.

You'll have to pry my cold, dead hands from the steering wheel of my gas-driven F150.....

I don't need a thermometer. I can feel when it's hot out.
I don't need a weather station. I can tell when it's raining.
I won't spend $3000 to save $1.47/month.
Don't under estimate the entertainment value to someone with OCD tendencies. Also don't under estimate the ability of someone with those tendencies to make better decisions just due to having gathered more information prior to making decisions.

My brother in-law and I were talking about gathering credit card points. I showed three credits cards, one with double points, one that gives triple points for gas and quadruple for restaurants, then another with 5 time points in rotating categories. He laughed and pointed out he wouldn't waste the time because I wasn't factoring in the amount of work involved. I laughed back with "work? this is entertainment for me".

We're all different.

Yes, we are all different but I also am very OCD.
Interested thing about OCD is it manifests itself in very different ways in different people.
OCD itself is very entertaining.
I remember watching my mother in law arranging bananas in a perfect circle, each one "spooning" the other!
She did not know she was doing this. I did, having OCD myself.
THe look on my wifes face was hysterical as she watched me mess up thatose perfectly arranged bananas!

My son in law had OCD. Once he ordered a glass top for a table. It arrived a half-inch short.
I told my daughter we'd have a good laugh watching him go crazy trying to arrange that glass so it looked right!

I keep the thermostat at 78 and would be ok if it were warmer.
My bedroom won't go lower than 68. I bought a mini room A/C yesterday on Amazon.

I sleep best at roughly 65 or lower. Give me a room at 58 degrees and I'm gone for 9 hours. Just don't let the covers fall too far down my back.

Kinda like when I was growing up....no not really. In the winter I had frost an inch thick on the inside of my bedroom walls as a kid.
I slept FANTASTIC!!

With a sheet, a thick cotton blanket, a cotton/electric blanket, A thick wool blanket (fuckin heavy ass blanket), and an insulated quilt on top of that.
But when my alarm went off BAM I was up and in the shower with a cup of coffee.

Ends up I used the 2023 mattress review posted which I had looked at, oddly the TemperPedic beds did not fair as well as I had assumed they would. Leaning towards the HELIX with a Thuma platform

Question. Does anyone know of a solid foam rubber pillow for a bed? My father had one from the 1950's that he had until his death in 1972. I took it and it was lost when we moved from Maine to Massachusetts in 1985. It could be washed and dried and never lost its shape or its ability to support.

I have never been able to find another. The closest is torn up chunks of foam rubber. The closest thing I can find for support is the twenty pound rock I use today.

Again, we're all different.
I like down pillows but my scalp doesnt.
I despise solid foam pillows - stick with the rock!

My favorite pillow is a Japanese bead pillow. It is like sleeping on a bag of soft rocks.
You'd have to try it.
