No honey I do not need you to schedule an appointment with Hunter Douglas. So I am on the very tail end of my home remodel project and told wife time to pick out new window dressings. She went to Hunter Douglas where they offer an energy rebate of $1250.00. I told her there is no real value in that. Shades do not offer that much of an energy rating that one is the much better than the other. I also told her Hunter Douglas will be twice as expensive as Levolor, Bali or other brands.
I am more than happy with our Bali's.

I also tinted the arcs above the 4 windows with them. I may go back and tint all windows on that side. Makes a big difference.

I'm not a cell phone number either but what can I gain from letting someone think I am? Here's a simple one, a store sends loss leaders (products they sell at a loss as a gamble that getting you into the store will cause you to buy other overpriced items) to me by text and I buy the loss leaders I want and only those items. I buy most of my products at places with reputations for delivering the fairest overall prices.

This isn't a perfect example since loss leaders tend to be on circulars too, but you get my concept. As a rule, if you treat me as a member of your flock I'll meander around to what's in my best interest and not just let you guide me to where you intend me to go.
They can email that shit to my home email.

I plan to go with Roman Shades on the larger mulled widows and pleated shades in the bedroom. I cannot imagine how Hunter Douglas would be any different than Bali or Levelor

Smart man. Look at every "deal" and calculate the real cost to you vs your other options. If they offer "future savings", calculate what those likely will be, then buy the right one FOR YOU.
1st order of business when you retire is to learn to say no - if you have not already learned this lesson.

Great idea. I will consider that for our arched windows!
Did you tint them yourself or have a contractor do it?

My son and I.

Until my wife got involved.

Then it became a whole family affair.

Pretty easy really.
If you can take a piece of cardboard and make a rough template it makes it easier.

That was my first order of business when I signed my mortgage 17 years ago and is the reason I haven't had a mortgage for the last 5 years. I don't recommend being a miser, but eliminating the mindless money drain is a key to mastering your finances.

I have a mortgage but since I don't live in Mass or Cali, it is very reasonable.
I have a 4BR in a very nice neighborhood on an acre next to a large lake. Cost with taxes and insurance inclded is $900/month
2.35 % interest. One of the reasons I retired here. My retirement income is not taxable and I get an old fart discount on my property tax.

A nast storm is headed for Florida this afternoon and it has been spawning tornadoes all the way.
Looks like it is headed right at @BigKen

I'm not giving you advice, just sharing my method for dealing with the constant shepparding thrown at us.
All good...It wasn't taken as advice.
Just giving my feelings.
Publix wants me to download their app to get savings.
Kroger does not.

Guess where I do a lot of my shopping?

Guess where I do a lot of my shopping?
Winn Dixie opened their flagship store in Weddington NC, I shopped there frequently and got to know people there.
One day a woman I kne there was signing up customers for their rewards card.
I filled out the app and she looked at it and said, "that's not your phone number"
I told her it was a phony number. She said they would not use my number for anything.
I laughed and told her that she would soon hear in the news of an insurance company declining a claim for a cancer patient because their shopping records showed that they started smoking. You'd also read that some divorce attorney was able to prove you were a drunk because of all the beer you bought. She was shocked!
2 years later I found that every checker in the store used my phony number when people did not have their card with them.
I had over $2000 worth of credits saved up!
What's the moral of this story?

Anyone here an expert on bikes? I've only been doing it a couple years and bought my first real one today. Decent ones are not cheap and there are a lot of pretenders making comparisons very difficult.

More looking for a discussion of what I bought. I'm pretty certain I over bought, but it's easier to overbuy and accept it than underbuy and not have something you later want. Ultimately I fell back on spending more on something worth it's value though I may not need it all. For example, I went with a carbon frame, not because it's lighter but rides smoother. Did I need that? probably not but it's difficult turning aluminum into carbon later.

I have a full suspension Cannondale Scalpel (aluminum) It was expensive enough without carbon fibre. (similar to this)

Specialized makes great bikes.
Mine is a mountain bike but if I bought another road bike, I would buy carbon fibre and a really good lock!
