I'm..............saying...........that...........we........didn't........need.......a........project........at.......the......position.......but.......a.......player.......with........a..........legitimate (means good).......chance.....to......push......Colt.....for....the....backup.......job!

I am saying you have no idea what you are talking about. Would we rather a guy push Colt to an inferior level this season or a guy that can be a borderline starter in four as he moves his way up to backup QB?

Seriously, do you believe there were any late round QBs that we're going to lead us to the playoffs if KC goes down? There likely wasn't, so why not go for the guy with a better his side in years 2, 3, and 4?

if KC plays well this year then you have to pay him 20-24 mil or else you are starting over . i cant see doing that .

the skins want to see more of KC (as they should ) before committing large sums of money to him

as for sudfeld they said they wanted a developmental guy and that is what they got .

I'm guessing that you overlooked my original point. We should have drafted a QB, just earlier than when Sudfield was taken.

When? Which QB?

There were plenty in earlier rounds that would have been better suited to fill the needs of this team. I have no argument with what was publicly stated as a team desire (a developmental guy) and what they got. I just don't agree with it being a want vs a need. Colt is a decent backup and just might win a game or two, but ask yourself honestly, is he really what we need in the event that Kirk can't go? Would you really want to have the new project as a backup to Colt in that event? I know that we all wish the best for our guys, but shit happens and we cannot afford to assume good health among other things.

Okay I think I see where you are going Sty. We do not want to reprise what happened in Dallas when Romo got hurt. I agree with that. For now I like that Colt is the backup ... I just don't see an issue with drafting Sudfeld to take that job down the road. Any of us can argue whether it is a good pick or not. It seems Gruden liked him.

As far as Cousins goes I believe he will get paid, the only question is whether it is this year or next year. I believe he is the QB for the next 5-7 years.

Only Colt can "push" Colt to an inferior level, if he's unprepared to keep his job when pitted against a new guy. Again, because the SM era is noted for his desire to become better a every position, my preference would have been to get a guy who would be ready in 1 to 2 years vs 3 to 4. Borderline be damned!

Since you attempted to fuck with my commas, I'll not point out your " a guy with a better his side in years 2,......."

More accurately he's made 14.9 million as the teams starter over 3 seasons. This is not that complicated, he either signs for what the team is willing to pat for him or he wears the FT again. BTW: 9-7 is winning (div. title remember?) and he did demand a huge salary. Tell me again what the terms of that long term contract that he signed were?
He won't be franchised again next year. You're out of your mind if you even think that is a possibility. With all do respect... of course.

Simple terms.. if he's bad they aren't gonna franchise him, and if he's good they will sign him. BTW, I believe a long term deal is still possible before the season starts. Franchise him again,,, Stymie,, you're a funny guy.

Exactly, we are all veterans of sports talk, and I'm betting to a man we have all made predictions based on what was current at the time. Great example using Romo which is exactly what fueled my desire to get a more polished QB in the draft. There's only one of these guys on the field at a time and the closer we are to having a guy who more closely gives us what Kirk did in the second portion of last year, the less concern there will be if he can't go!

BTW: believe that Kirk will get paid too, I just don't think that it should be anything more than in the 13 to 17M range, even if he turns into the second coming!

So you want to sign a player to push Colt for the 2nd string spot when he's more than adequate in that role already... and you want to franchise KC again next year. Serious question.. are you a Cowboy fan in disquise just trying to be silly?

6 months I would have agreed with you about Kirk's salary but that is the going rate. Salaries for QBs are going up so fast I think it will be a bargain before the contract ends .... if he continues to produce.

No argument man, but I'm thinking about the cap and how a huge salary to Kirk will affect the team's ability to sign quality players beyond that agreement. Sure it goes up every year, but so will the demands/costs of others players already here and FA's.

Some will think that I'm tight with money because of this, but for the record, I believe that the Labor department should get involved concerning the con job pulled on Jordan Reed and his new contract!:D

Big difference...autocorrect versus improper usage.

Give me the example and who you would have rather passed on.

There isn't a QB in round 4 or 5 that would have beat CM out.

I don't agree with Stymietee's comments.

Colt McCoy is almost a perfect backup: he is good enough to win a few games, but doesn't realistically believe he should/is a first-team starter in the NFL. He may not have a cannon of an arm, but he plays with moxie, has some escapability, is understands where the pressure is coming from, and can audible himself out of trouble.

The reason the cowboys were fucked last season is because they had truly awful backup qbs on their roster, no legitimate running threats, and a hobbled/gimpy Dez Bryant who broke his foot in week 1.

To be perfectly honest, if any team is down to their third qb, their season is pretty much fucked to begin with. There is literally no reason whatsoever to draft a qb higher than where the redskins drafted Sudfield.

If kc plays well this year then pay him his money. If he's bad let him go. The problem is if he has a very average season. What does he get paid then? Does he get paid?

But is it the going rate for a starting QB or a good qb? Some on here think that because a QB can function without embarassing them self that they're worthy of 20 million just because some other team would do it.
