No argument man, but I'm thinking about the cap and how a huge salary to Kirk will affect the team's ability to sign quality players beyond that agreement. Sure it goes up every year, but so will the demands/costs of others players already here and FA's.

Some will think that I'm tight with money because of this, but for the record, I believe that the Labor department should get involved concerning the con job pulled on Jordan Reed and his new contract!:D

If Kirk is worthy of 20+ million after this season then paying kirk 20+ million will not be the problem with our team.

I think we're fine at backup QB with mccoy and I think if you're on your backup youre probably in trouble already. So going upside is fine I guess but I just wouldn't have taken sudfield. I don't think he's that good and I prefer Vernon adams but hey its a 6th round pick and a 3rd string qb. I'm not losing any sleep.

It is cool to want a different player but I think Russell Wilson has really distorted expectations regarding small QBs. Just by the eye test, Wilson looks much thicker and his hands are much larger...and yes, size matters.

They are eerily similar in size. Though Wilson does have larger hands and more speed, adams has that same escapability. I think Wilson shows that you don't have to be tall to be an NFL qb. It's an unnecessary requirement. But like I said, not losing any sleep adams wouldn't have played anytime this year anyways.

Exactly...dart throwing at this point. That being said, 32 NFL teams didn't think enough of Adams to draft him and Wilson went in round 3...so there must have been something. Height and weight, they are similar but Wilson appears to be much thicker. I wouldn't have lost sleep either.

Clearly you want me to list a few guys that you can immediately dismiss, but what the hell, for shits and giggles, my list. (order does not denote my preference )

1. Connor Cook, Note the Michigan State connection

2. Dak Prescott, already better than Colt and would have been a threat to supplant KC in a season or two.

3. Cardale Jones, pretty much what we got with Sudfield, but I give an edge to because of the program he came from and his experience on a national championship stage...so Meh!

4. Cody Kessler, went in the 3rd but he's a KC clone

5. Kevin Hogan dude came from the same program that produced A. Luck and at times looked like him

1- Connor Cook went early in round 4. Do you think we should have passed on Fuller, a first round talent, to get a backup QB? Fuller will see the field this season, guaranteed, and help us win football games.

2- Dak Prescott we could have taken in round 4, instead we traded out of round 4. That trade got us Ioaniddis and a fifth next season. I disagree with you about Prescott ever playing in the NFL as a QB, let alone beating out Colt, but perhaps we could have done this. I am of the opinion Ioaniddis will play a good role in our defense this season and is far more valuable than a possible backup. Dak will never beat out KC.

3- Cardale Jones...the exact write up of Dak. Neither can throw the football at all.

4- Kessler would have had to pass on Fuller. Hell no...not for a backup QB.

5- Hogan came from the program but isn't Luck. Sure, we could have taken Hogan but he is unimpressive as well. I would have been fine with it though.

He won't be franchised again next year. You're out of your mind if you even think that is a possibility. With all do respect... of course.

Simple terms.. if he's bad they aren't gonna franchise him, and if he's good they will sign him. BTW, I believe a long term deal is still possible before the season starts. Franchise him again,,, Stymie,, you're a funny guy.

We'll just let time work it out, then revisit.

So you want to sign a player to push Colt for the 2nd string spot when he's more than adequate in that role already... and you want to franchise KC again next year. Serious question.. are you a Cowboy fan in disquise just trying to be silly?

You have your opinion and I have mine...respect!

Already better in an NFL offense? Dude hasn't even gotten to his first training camp.

Give me the example and who you would have rather passed on.

There isn't a QB in round 4 or 5 that would have beat CM out.

Agree & you could make an argument that there is nobody in the entire draft ready to play in the NFL right away which kind of counters the backup argument. Heck - most folks see the guy drafted # 2 overall as not being ready so why would anyone expect someone in the 4th rd or lower to be ready to play this season or possibly even next season. Again - SM is not building this team strictly for this season, and anybody not seeing this is not paying attention.

Also - Sty - do you really know much about this guy? Have you been scouting him for the past few years? Do you have more info on him than the Redskins scouting team? If not then I suggest that you just wait and see before making all these judgements. No doubt some Pats fans probably said the same thing when they drafted Brady in the 6th rd years ago. I am no way suggesting that this guy will be as good - just saying that we don't know how good or bad he will be in the future.

With all do respect Stymie,, you can't franchise Kirk again next year. You'll never be able to get out from under your own weight. 21m guaranteed this year,, 25+ next year,, he has made 46 million guaranteed in two years and you still have to deal with what you wanna do with him. You'd be stuck in cap hell. Lets say they truly believe they just don't know what they got... fine,,let him play all year under the tag to truly gage. You're gonna have to pay him next year or let him walk if he delivers again... trust me,, if he delivers and the Skins still don't believe in him he won't sign... and then bye bye. If he wets the bed and the Skins demote him we are screwed as an organization because Colt 45 or Nate the great ain't gonna be the teams saving grace.

We want KC to be in position to demand a huge salary.. not the opposite. We want to win, remember.

Based on the way that the cap is playing out and with some expected cuts (e.g., Roberts), we can actually manage a $25M cap figure for Cuz. But, as you said, that's madness. If you want to pay $45M guaranteed money to a player, why not roll part of that into a signing bonus and extend the guy? I'd be stunned if he was franchised again.
