Once again, leaving coaches run has always been about McVay not stopping them. He could do that by not granting permission of a given suitor team to talk with a given coach.
He can't stop them from leaving if it is a promotion job.Once again, leaving coaches run has always been about McVay not stopping them. He could do that by not granting permission of a given suitor team to talk with a given coach.

True but it doesn't always pan out for some. Some are better to just stay and be a coordinator for another year or some and get some more experience, expertise etc. It's a dbl edged sword because when you win, people want to duplicate that success.Sure, but I'd try to talk them into a comparable raise to stay in their current position. I continue to hate the trend of hiring the hot OC or DC as a head coach, and as a result taking them out of that position in which they excel. The cases that work (like McVay) keep that candidate heavily involved in his specialty. However, there are more cases where the elite coordinator fails and eventually returns to his specialty elsewhere.
