The Doors were only active with Morrison for 4 years and though their albums had a lot of weird and sometimes unlistenable filler, they made some great music. These aren't all of their good ones.. just the ones that everyone knows, even if they have never heard any of their albums.

I'd call it more 'Prog', but yeah, they were damned good before Perry.

They didn't become popular until Steve Perry joined the band. After he left the band they couldn't draw flies.

I always considered AC/DC to be sort of a dumbed down and slowed down Aerosmith, who themselves were considered a dumbed down and slowed down Rolling Stones at the time. Plodding, extremely simplistic 3rd rate songs but perfect for people with no sense of rhythm who like their rock & roll very simple and very loud... and there are apparently a lot of them.

AC/DC is way better than Aerosmith.

If it makes you feel any better, i thought LZ sucked live too.

Zeppelin was a horrible live act because they did so many things in studio that weren't easy to reproduce on stage. Their albums were great

AC/DC is way better than Aerosmith.

Aerosmith isn't one of my favorites but I like some of their music and I have their first 3 albums. But I've never listened to an AC/DC song on purpose. Plodding, sing-along rock "anthems" aren't my thing. If you've heard one of their songs, you've heard them all.

I feel just the opposite, the doors had some great tracks on their studio albums that never get radio play: Land Ho, Ship of Fools, The Crystal Ship, Indian Summer, Moonlight Drive, Soul Kitchen

For best I would go with anything from Pete Seeger. For worst, anything not from Pete Seeger.

To be more clear, I am a fan and I agree that they had several great album cuts that rarely get airplay. I just listed those because they're songs that everyone should be familiar with, not just fans.

I was thinking more along the lines of some of their extended pieces like The End and When The Music's Over for example, that just sound self-indulgent in retrospect. Though they were just what the doctor ordered sitting around the dorm passing a joint back in the day, the songs themselves and their skills didn't really merit stretching out like that.

When i was young i used to like the long rambling instrumentals and solos, now that I'm older I'm like just end the damn song already.
