So that there are still some marquee games is proof there are more now?curious if you read these. Much of the garbage games is because teams that are sometimes considered good are not. Like Texas, USC, UCLA, Nebraska, etc.
Didn't you claim teams are not scheduling as well? I asked you who has scheduled worse since the CFP came into play. So far, no answer. Not one team you point to. And let's keep in mind when they schedule now the games are played 5-10 years down the road. Nothing they can do anymore about now.
So once again.....please tell me a team who is scheduling worse. One team. And to be fair, scheduling a team who at the time was good has fallen on hard times shouldn't hurt a team (like Bama playing FSU a few years ago).
You want to play and FCS team every year, cool. Glad my team doesn't.
In fairness, though, props to Bama for upping their game and actually visiting some campuses outside the SEC.
As it stands right now OOC games matter. So i am not aware of any team off the top of my head. You can be sure though the games will not matter there will be 3rd stringers playing and the games will mean less should there be an automatic bidding process.
Comparing what we have now to what an auto bid situation would look like is apples to oranges and not a valid argument.
The facts remain if all you need to do is win your conference then it is a fact that OOC games do not matter and teams can afford to lose 1, 2,3 all of them and it wont hurt their chances of winning their conference. if you set the threshold at no 4 loss teams then said team only needs to win 1 OOC game and the rest of their conference. Now depending how strategic teams get in scheduling their OOC it can make the end of the season really really really boring
Because you make it an automatic bid, meaning teams who dont belong there can benefit from playing a horrible OOC and play in a weak conference.
If they are a 2-3 loss team that plays in a crappy conference yep most definitely okay leaving them out. They had a chance and lost 2-3 gamesSo, you'd be okay with keeping a conference champion out of the playoff because the rest of their conference is weak? How are they supposed to control how strong the rest of the conference is?
What if that team was actually the best team in the country, but they weren't allowed in the playoff because the rest of their conference is considered weak?
The "weak conference" comment actually hurts your argument.
Big difference between blowing out ho hum conference opponents and having close calls and sloppy play against them. So, you'd be okay with keeping a conference champion out of the playoff because the rest of their conference is weak? There was a time not that long ago that being bowl eligible wasn't enough. There were only 11 bowls when I was younger, 15 in the 80's. It was a privilege to get an invite. You had to look the part and still you could be left out. Now we want to make participation in post season something automatic. Nope, earn it.Under the current system, they could have zero or only 1 loss and not get in simply because their conference is considered weak.

Coming from a weak conference alone shouldn't be the death of a run. That's why the eye test has validity. If you are going to play a weaker schedule, you better look the part. No free soup for you!
We've been through this before, but autobids end college football as we know it and kills what some of us like about the differences at this level vs high school and pro ball. I'm not willing to give up the sport I love so you can have participation trophies. Nope, not into that.Sorry, I don't buy the "eye test" when it's a bunch of fallible humans with their own biases making the decision.
As a USC fan, I've seen my team be left out of title opportunities because of a supposedly weak conference. I've had my fill of committees and humans who aren't on the field deciding teams fates, thank you very much.
Having autobids eliminates that bullshit committee. Win the conference, you're in. If you're not worthy, you won't be around long.
Assuming an 8 team playoff, let the committee decide the wild card teams.
Eight teams ... the P5 Champs (even if they have 4 losses) and three at large picked by the committee.
I fail to see where anyone else would have won the natty, since we've had the committee.
There hasn't been a case of a P5 going 13-0 and being left out, nor even being close. It's disingenuous to suggest a zero loss team can be left home due to a weak conf. I'll remind you UW got in with a loss on a shitty schedule.
Show me one case of all 5 major conferences having an undefeated champion.Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean it can't. There are 5 conferences and 4 playoff spots. Nothing disingenuous at all. Because the current system automatically eliminates at least 1 conference champion every season means the possibility exists.
And I'll remind you that USC was left out of the BCS twice, one time when they were the #1 ranked team in the country because the PAC was considered weak.
In Pete Carroll's 2nd season, USC was left out because they took 2 early losses to ranked teams before they hit their stride and most felt that they were actually the best team in the country by the end of the season.

Show me one case of 4 of them doing it.
Since 1940 there have been 5 teams that went undefeated in the Pac. Much of that time there were less than 12 games.
The odds of all 5 would have to be billions to 1 at least. Maybe trillions.
Show me one case of someone saying 'end as we know it' for the "and 1" or the BCS. I call bullshit. No they don't. Not even close. The same people claiming that autobids would who "be the end of college football as we know it" are the same ones thought going to the BCS and then to the current system would also "end college football as we know it". Yet here it is, as popular as ever.
And the "participation trophy" argument is bullshit. A conference champion would get their conference championship trophy. Other than that, they wouldn't get a trophy unless they won the NC.
You don't get a trophy just for making the playoff. So that actually makes your "participation trophy" pretty disingenuous considering the bowl trophies that will be handed out to teams that didn't win their conference.
Interesting that I focus on something that is so improbable that there is a higher likelihood you would be struck by lightning 3 times in your living room tonight?I don't need to since I never argued that. I simply stated that the possibility exists.
Interesting that you focus on that and ignore the rest of the post.
