Latest update I could get.

dead money on Brent was only $11,889. His base salary for this year was going to be $490,000

Minus the signing of Bell..... ( doesn't show what he got)

Our cap space was 9.4 million.

Just pretty much you can take a fair value guess if he got vet minimum.... we now have around 8.5 million in cap space.

So basically enough to sign an UDFA to replace him......

Gained nothing ... lost nothing

Except the drama is gone..... Which to me is a good thing

That why I couldn't understand why we kept him on the roster. His cap hit was minimum at worse.

I think it's a matter of a team being like a family .... and not turning you back on family. Doesn't go far when it comes to the media or fans..... but goes along way when it comes to signing and resigning players.

we didn't save anything. Nothing has changed. He was never gonna play this year for us anyways & his 11+k was always gonna count against us. So as Twist has pointed out. nothing gained here (unless retirement instead of cut means guaranteed money doesn't count)
So for those that think we just saved money (as I have read in other threads) we haven't. its just official now.
What I do wonder though is the Cowboys allowing him to retire instead of cutting him if it helps him in some way with pensions or some kind of coverage of some sort? Things we never hear about.

We also cut him before he retired, lol.....but guaranteed money is guaranteed money and must be accounted for on the cap. I need to read up on the rules of the new CBA when it comes to dead money and individuals who retire.

Thanks twist, I have it already, its just I find myself with very little time these days. I know the money has to be counted for; but I just don't know if it counts as if they were cut, or if you can spread it out over numerous years. I'll look into it maybe later tonight lol.
