The Biggest Losers of a (likely) Nixed NBA Season

In search of the 2020 edition of the '94 Montreal Expos:

- LeBron James: Perhaps no one loses more with this pandemic than one LeBron James, likely the biggest media hog in the history of the sports industry. You just know that the fat cats at the NBA Corporate Office Headquarters are stewing over the idea of LeBron entering his age-36 season with still half as many rings as Michael Jordan, and that the league will continue to search for a creative excuse to play games in July as a result - One of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard in recent history, in that.

- Oklahoma City Thunder: This is a team that for about the last year has held the dubious distinction of being a "good" team albeit without a clear-cut direction or future. At last month's trade deadline, Sam Presti & Co. elected to stand pat for the purpose of seeing how far this group could advance this year. With a potential cancellation of the 2019-20 season, however, the outlook here is more murky now than ever. Perhaps a complete roster teardown of everyone except for SGA is now in the works? So yeah, it turns out that fans in OKC will have more to lose than the wasted gas money used to attend that cancelled game against Utah.

You honestly believe that LeBron James is the main reason NBA execs will try to finish the season?

Wake up man.

A lost season is bad everybody. Even the teams that aren’t sniffing the playoffs. It changes legacies and hurts revenue, which will eventually reduce future earnings.

Everybody loses if this season isn’t finished.

Lebron would be halfway through his contract and has yet to play in a playoffs game (obviously this year isn't his fault) and it is a crusher for the Bucks because the possibility of Gianns resigning goes out the window if the season is over.

Sadly, the idea of games returning in July seems too optimistic. I think I read that the NBA was telling teams to look at scheduling arenas for August. Not in a million years did I ever think March Madness would be canceled. What a scary and crazy world we live in now.

Bucks the biggest loser, IMO. Best player and best team in the NBA. Fans waiting for decades for a championship caliber team and finally have one. Got somewhat unlucky last year, and then gets a season derailed by a global pandemic the following year. WTF.

Yeah, it's terrible. I should've thought beyond the players and teams in my post above. The clear biggest losers are the arena workers across the league.

I think Clippers are right there because they won’t be able to keep all their pieces next year.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Lakers and Bucks would be able to bring back all their core guys (if they want to).

Really? I feel like there is a better chance he leaves if this season resumes and the Bucks win the title. If the season is canceled, it feels like there will be pressure for Giannis to stay and get the job done if civilization doesn't fall.

If the season resumed and the Bucks won, Giannis moving on would be like LeBron leaving Cleveland the second time, or like Kawhi leaving Toronto (although that's a much lesser degree because Kawhi was a rental). Because those guys won a title, people backed their decisions to move on to a new team.

I'd put them as 2A and 2B.

Number 1 has to be the Clippers.

How many decades were they the joke of the league?

Now, for the first time in their history, they not only have a contending team, they are the favorites to win it all.

If this season gets canceled (I don't think it will), it just proves they're cursed.
